This book was an interesting read and pretty much what I expected from the flamboyant Tito Ortiz. Tito does pretty much a linear narative from his early childhood with some background on his parents on to his time in a gang during Junior High and finally his wrestling days in High School/College until his first matches in the early UFC.Along the way, there are short passages from his mom, ex-wife, and Jenna Jameson throughout the book. Their input ranges from mildly insightful to redundant(basically restating what Tito had just said). Tito focuses heavily on his relationships with his parents, ex-wife, and Jenna. While that's fine, I just wished that he put more attention to his fighting career and training. He tends to glance through his preperations for a fight and doesn't really describe how he feels before a fight. The font used for this book is large and there are only 202 pages so this is a quick read. While I enjoyed reading the book I just wished there was more to it.
At long last, Ortiz was able to outdo Chuck Liddell at something. That something was writing a better book. At the least, Ortiz's book went to a draw with Liddell's book.Ortiz's life has been full of ups and downs, and he is straightforward about his struggles with women, drugs, and fame. A lot of times when people write their story, they tend to paint themselves in a better, more agreeable light. But Ortiz doesn't try to do this. He is revealing and honest. He doesn't hold anything back.Interesting, informative, and insightful, this book delivers a KO to most of the other MMA biographies that have been coming out in this past year. I didn't really like the commentary of Jenna Jameson and Ortiz's mother. Their commentary detracts from the flow of the book. The format of the book was poorly thought out.
Whenever I read a memoir I hope to be better able to understand the person at the end. Some recent books I have read, including Chris Jehrico and Randy Couture really give you an insight into the person and makes you feel like you know them. Tito's book, while a very good read, seems to always be on the surface and never really lets you feel like you know Tito any better than you knew him before. It was surprising since in with his Ultimate Fighter coaching stint he seemed like he could really open up. Not so in this book. Tito could literally write another autobigraphy and you would not be surprised it sounded different from this one.
After reading this book. I've gained a lot of insight as to who Tito Ortiz is. I have more respect for Tito as a person & as a fighter and will forever regard him as extended family! Love him or hate him, there is more than meets the eye with Tito Ortiz and this book touched my heart in many ways! I highly recommend this book to any one out there, whether your a fan of mixed martial arts or not. If you want to really get to know The Huntington Beach Bad Boy, this is a must read! I can't thank Tito enough for writing it! Thank You Tito!!! 1Luv bro!!!!
If your an mma fan or a big tito fan you will love this book. It goes through the ups and downs of his life and he also talks about all of his fights and the effects they had on him. definitely a great book for any fight fan. The only problem with the book is i thought it was to short and i don't read a lot of books. roughly 230 pages with large font. Other than that this book offers a revealing look into one of mixed martial arts most famous champions life.
Who is the real Tito? I surely had no idea. He's cocky on TV and gets bad-mouthed by other fighters in interviews and in their books. It turns out Tito is a father, an actor, a serious businessman and a entrepreneur on top of being one of the UFC's biggest names.Tito's biography is one you wont soon forget. He lets it all out and talks about his crazy childhood and MMA career. This book is easy to read and definitely clears up some of the rumors about him that we (MMA fans) often hear.Good book, great stories! For any Tito Ortiz fan and all MMA fans!
Great condition, great value, great story! I like Tito Ortiz now more than before I read the book. Before I read the book, I thought he was just a cocky loudmouthed braggart. But now after reading his story, I really think he is just a regular guy deep down inside. He has had his share of problems, hardships, and failures. He has weaknesses and vulnerabilities, despite all his accomplishments. In some cases I can empathize with him.
How this book managed to get 4 stars up to this point is beyond me. I was never a huge fan of Tito but after reading this book I absolutely hate him. He's full of more excuses than someone who... Has a lot of excuses. If you liked Iceman, you'll hate this book. Tito has the mentality of an 8 year old and is about as well spoken as president Bush. I wish I could return this book because I want to have no part of supporting such a complete and total moron.
