I had my first copy of this about twenty years ago and loaned it out, and it never came back, so I had to get another copy. This book gives a well designed pictorial and written view of the physical aspect of emotion. When I read it the first time, I was in awe of the idea of "emotional anatomy" and the potential uses in psychotherapy. Twenty three years into the field, now I think it should become part of any curriculum turning out potential "psychotherapists." The field has changed over two decades, and as physical well being become more and more part of our practice, it is imperative to understand how unexpressed emotions wear on the physical being. A must read for any one in at any practice level.

Recommended by my Rolfer. An unusual and interesting way to look at how the body is constructed and how anatomy influences/harmonizes with emotions. Not for everybody, but brings a new dimension to body work.

A great book as a reference for my work around body and mind. The illustrations in the book help me a lot in understanding how our body affects our mind and emotions, and hence affects our choices and actions in life.

Powerful historical read

I don't really know what to think of this book. It's not what I expected in relation to "emotional anatomy". Its not about somatics. Its a big book with big drawings and a description to these drawings. Its not for beginners. Its about the tubes, layer and pumps in the body and how these change depending on life's experiences which in this book are nearly all negative. I think this book is an acquired taste and with time I will understand it.

Has there ever been a bad David McCullough book? His book on the early years of Theodore Roosevelt is excellent, easy to read and covers the years most people skip over when talking about TR. Its an interesting look into his family, his childhood, his relationship with his brother and sisters and how the family came first no matter what. You also get an insight into political activities at the time and TR's rise in the Republican party. Its an interesting look at NY society, how the wealthy were supposed to act, and how TR's father influenced him and his outlook on public service. All in all, an excellent read...

Mr. McCullough's "Mornings on Horseback" is an account of the early life of Theodore Roosevelt. I have read a number of books on the life of this extraordinary man (I still feel the 3 volume Edmund Morris work is the definitive biography of President Roosevelt). This volume focuses on the Roosevelt family and life in the late 19th century. Mr. McCullough's belief is that his early family life strongly shaped TR's persona. This is very nice, one volume introduction to TR. It is also nice complimentary work that fleshes out his family life. GREAT READ!!(1)

If you’re looking for a typical biography on Theodore Roosevelt this is not the book for you. This book does not pretend to be a book designed to detail the life of TR from aristocrat to rough rider to president.David McCullough presents a biography on the Roosevelt family and explains how the family was brought up, how they interacted with each other, and how much they loved each other. Granted, Theodore plays a big part in the book, it really is more an analysis about the development of character and virtues that came to define one’s life than it is a linear biography.This would probably be the ideal book to read before tackling a more traditional biography on Roosevelt. I found McCullough, as always, to be rich with detail, candid, and depicting the Roosevelt clan in an engaging manner. My only critique is the chapter that describes Theodore’s experience in the badlands as I felt it was rather slow. Also, it would’ve been nice if McCullough detailed Theodore’s relationship was Frederic Remington better, but overall this is a must read for anyone looking to begin reading about Theodore Roosevelt

I hesitated to purchase this book, even though I love McCullough's writing, because I had already read Morris's Roosevelt trilogy and thought it unlikely this volume would add much to what I had already read in Morris's books. I'm glad I gave it a chance, though, as I found it to be a delightful take on Teddy's early years. While there wasn't much in the way of details or information that was significantly different than the first volume of Morris, it was still an excellent read and I never tire of young Theodore's exploits. Even if you've already read up on Roosevelt, I recommend you give McCullough's treatment a chance.

I just finished this book on Teddy Roosevelt written by one of the greatest biography writers ever. I have read all of McCullough's books and not one has disappointed. He and Doris Kearns Goodwin are my favorite writers. Great storytelling of the lives, personality, family moments, friends writings on Teddy, all his adventures etc. Most people think non-fiction biographies are surely boring. This one will have you laughing, amazed by the incredible adventures Teddy took on his own all over the world, his love and appreciation of other peoples and cultures, and his forward-thinking legislative action he brought up with great passion for passage in Congress. A great story by a great author.

This book is on par with the other David McCullough books I have read. His in-depth descriptions of the many people who fill the Roosevelt's world is so vivid that you feel like you are in the scene watching them. Having twice watched the PBS series on the Roosevelts, I wasn't sure I could learn a whole lot more, but I was wrong. McCullough shows how prim and proper and class- conscious the wealthy people were in the 19th century. They rarely showed their true feelings but instead, acted as one of the upper class was expected to behave. The book begins with the story of the grandfather of Theodore and ends with Teddy's death. The family was very wealthy but at the same time, felt a duty to help others who were less fortunate. I could hardly put down the book and loved every minute of reading it.

“Mornings on Horseback” is not a biography of Teddy Roosevelt, as such. McCullough’s intention was to explore the elements that shaped TR and made him the man who would become a Rough Rider, Mayor of New York, police commissioner, congressman, Vice President, and President of the United States—his childhood battle with asthma, his beautiful southern mother, the role of his father. McCullough wanted to understand what and who were involved in the making of all that energy and persistence. The result is a satisfying and well-written portrait of Roosevelt’s development.

If you've read bios on Roosevelt before, but not this one, you'll find more new material and insight than you might have imagined. The book focuses on Roosevelt's younger life in a story which is every bit as compelling and deep as his exploits later in life. No one is more qualified to write this story than our living national treasure David McCoullough. All the depth and quality of a carefully researched academic study but as compelling as any story in any novel. I thought I liked Roosevelt before -I like him even better now!

The concept of this book is all very well, and I think the idea of creating a stepfamily plan is quite a good one, but the execution is uninspiring: the writing style is boring, the layout presents you with big chunks of dense text and overall the tone isn't at all engaging.Worst of all, though, the author tells stepparents once again that they "have to put the children first" and accept being second for their partner. Come on, there is reliable, recent research that shows that this is the best possible recipe for another divorce!An approach that is proven to be far more effective for conserving remarriages and ultimately more stable for the children is for the couple to focus on becoming a strong team and to parent from that team. Remarriage experts agree that guilting stepparents into accepting "second place" is not the way to make a successful stepfamily.Susan Wisdom's "Stepcoupling" is a far better, more engaging and more helpful book for struggling stepfamilies.

Hoo boy this has been coming for a while. The initial premise of the protagonist being engaged to a 13 year old set of all sorts of alarm bells this was going to be some wierd creeper fic. It has danced that line ever sinceWhich is a damn shame because the one thing Parora does well is world building and giving touya an authentic voiceBut this book crossed a line. Why did the doctor have to be in a naked prepubescent girls body? Why did the one gynoid have to be a pedophile? Why the crud is there a full illustrated depiction of her near naked body?I said this was the last straw and thankfully he has knicked off the pedo stupidity in the next book. So yeah if you could stop that and also having 'be rapist' for every villian trait its such a crutch

I just love this series, and I hope he keeps writing it for a long time! There are 4 more already published in Japanese, and J-novel is going at a rate of 1 book per 2 months so we should catch up by early next year! Here's hoping they keep the Anime going too!

Ok so i loved the book for the most part. Loved that The Doctor is back, but Sakura being from xenoas was kind of disappointing. I was hoping she was from yulong and her siblings had tried to kill her and tyats why she knew of the spies when they attacked before. Besides that im happy with how the book moved and how the girls are growing. I wish Touya would idk put his hands on one of them already even if its just a kiss. And yes they have all kissed him by now but like i want him to be the ine to initiate it!

I like this series a lot. The characters are interesting and their actions fit with their image. I am just wondering if this story is going to be like many stories today and not have an ending. I hope the author moves along and makes a final volume.

Sensei knocked another one out of the park! These characters are funny, engaging, and a pleasure to read. The antics this bunch gets up to will make you laugh out loud. I can't wait to purchase and read volume 11!

With all 9 fiance's and the crazy doctor and Touya is in for more then he bargained. Let's see where the adventure takes us in the next instalment.P.S. Don't ever eat something with eyeballs in it!
