Now Say This arrived yesterday - perfect timing - since we had an "adventure" in the car with our new puppy that ended with my 6 year old sobbing, 10 year old yelling and the poor puppy freaking out. I was completely frazzled. I started reading the book out loud with the kids over dinner. Read the parent's part about how we yell, nag etc. when frustrated and my kids laughed and nodded - yes - some of the examples sound like mom. Went through the ALP steps (attune, limit set, problem solve) and then tried it. The kids were super into it and we had a great talk and came up with some new plans for when we are stressed out. This only took about five minutes and was such a great reset for us. So the bottom line - this book is an easy read, practical and helpful from page one and the techniques work for children of different ages (probably for spouses too). Will keep reading...

I have to say I so rarely get a parenting book that I actually finish and want to review. This one really spoke to me. It is immensely helpful with the practicle steps, and real examples. I am the parent with the best intentions that often gets frustrated in the moment and yells. The practice of the 3 steps kind of resets the way everyone in the family communicates. I even see the kids being more relfective and less reactive in some hard moments. Everyone is calming down. My kids are old enough (6 and 11) to understand that there is an intention behind this. But I wish I had read this when they were younger! After reading this am hopful that our start to the school year will be less stressful around morning and homework times.

This is a truly fantastic book. My wife and I have started putting ALP into practice and have already begun to see some encouraging changes around our household. Although a challenge at times, staying positive and calm has started to rub off on my daughter. When we slip I can see a negative difference in how she reacts, which to me just reinforces that the process works. One thing mentioned in the book that has proven especially true, she really loves to help! What a lifesaver for when we have to get something done. I used to have to turn on a movie and hope it would hold her attention while I made dinner. Now, I can tell her that I know she really wants to keep playing with me, but that it’s time to make dinner and that I could really use her help. We get out a step stool and she happily “helps” me. Great bonding moments. I could go on and on, but in short, Thank you!

I learned about the authors when I attended an in-person Happy Sleeper workshop when my oldest was an infant. I learned so much about how babies sleep and we implemented changes to get the whole family more rest. Over the past few years, we've worked with Julie Wright to gently manage sleep regressions and even created a sleep plan in advance for my youngest. When I saw Julie and Heather had a parenting book coming out, I knew I wanted to read it!I was very lucky to learn about Resources in Educaring when I was pregnant. It helped me through the newborn period and continues to inform my parenting with my 3.5 and 1 year olds. But what do you do if you haven’t found a parenting approach that resonates with you before your kids are born? What do you do if you need help today? What do you do if you’ve read the articles that say yelling, screen time and spanking are all bad, and now you need help doing something different?“Now Say This” lays out the big and small picture. How to have the relationship you want with your children and how to get them out of the tub at the end of bath. What do you do when they won’t get out? There’s an acronym to help you! ALP! Incorporating ALP (attune, limit-set, problem solve) doesn’t mean all meltdowns will stop, but it does mean that you can get through it while being the loving parent in charge.Parents these days are busy with work, managing the home and multiple children, this book breaks down how to interpret your child’s behavior and practical ways to enjoy your relationship with your children at all ages through healthy boundaries and genuine empathy.

I love this practical guide for speaking to children effectively and with respect. I'm a busy working mom (physician) of 8 and 10 year old children. The three step process (ALP) made it simple as I learned to implement their method. Now it feels natural, and my home environment is happier (and feels easier after a long day) because of it. My husband and I feel we have more time to truly enjoy our kids now. Oddly, we didn't realize we had a problem, and I read the book because I learned so much from the authors in their first book together. Thank you, Heather and Julie!!

This book, and the author's Happy Sleeper, are incredible resources for parents. This book is easy to read, concepts are clear and the examples are excellent. It really is both a guide to parenting as well as a practical how-to. Now Say This offers techniques that work with adults, too. I appreciate the respect the authors convey for all parenting styles and parenting mistakes. It takes away the stigma that you have to do it right. It supports the notion that we should do our best with an understanding of child development. In addition, their ALP notion is easy to remember, especially in the heat of a difficult child-rearing moment! I am giving this book, and Happy Sleeper, to every new parent I know. It just makes so much sense to me.

In an ideal world, this book would be required reading for every human who has a child. This book can make the world a better place, and at least make the reader's world a better place. Now Say This is going to be my gift for everyone's birthday or for any baby shower moving forward. As I was reading it, I was seeing my middle child and all his issues, my niece who is a seriously troubled middle child and my brother who has always lacked the tools to deal with her. I feel empowered with the 3-step approach to difficult moments and all the specific examples and case studies!

This book is a must for any and all Grey Gardens fans. I would have given it 5 stars, but something really bugged me upon reading the Forward/Introduction by Albert Maysels. For the most part, I enjoyed his write up, which was heartfelt and filled with keen pshycological insight. However, one thing is factually incorrect: He states Big Edie "married a Bouvier." In truth, she was born into the family as the daughter of a Bouvier. It made it sound like she married into the Bouviers, when in fact she married into the Beale family. I am not sure how someone like Maysles (or his daughters, for that matter) with such an integral knowledge of these ladies would have made such an error, or how in proofing this mistake wasn't caught. Perhaps if there is ever a future edition, they can correct it. That said, the book is a wonderful compilation of information, notes and photos and well worth purchasing.

This book is a total joy. It has over 200 pages of images we've never seen and it totally captures the feeling of both Grey Gardens documentaries. There is SO MUCH STUFF included in this! There are all kinds of quotes we have never heard before, lots and lots of great conversation transcripts and a transcript of the film! A true gem, is the accompanying CD (with high quality sound!) of audio, all previously unheard! The things on this CD are absolutely priceless! At one point Mrs. Beale is singing a song dramatically and in between every pause, you can hear Little Edie calling out "Whiskers!? Whiskers?" We are also treated to the Beale's live (audio) reaction to watching the film for the first time! They apparently adored it 'like mad'! Little Edie laughs nervously at first. In the book, you will see a notation where Edie declares the film will win "Nine awards. You saw 'Gigi'? It gone nine."The layout of this book is in a scrap book fashion with lots of original artwork from the daughters of the Maysles. One gets the feeling from this book, that it was created out of true appreciation for the Beale ladies with no self-centered agenda. This was clearly put together with the fans in mind and they definitely deliver. The Maysles daughters had access to treasures no one else could.I would highly recommend this for every single Grey Gardens fan out there. It will be a great addition to your collection.

I ordered this book after an art teacher recommended it. I found it was easier to find a movie than the actual book, but I was happy to finally track this book down. It was one of the forerunners of the the Broadway show Grey Gardens. It is an amazing story and I am sure many of my friends will be interested in this amazing tale. The book arrived in good condition, was well packaged an arrived in a timely manner.

WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN> IT IS SIMPLY OUTTAKES FROM THE FILMING!

I love Grey Gardens and everything having to do with it. The two Eddies are a hoot. Many probably won't like the format of this book as it reads like a scrapbook - but I still found it interesting...didn't really learn anything new but it was fun to just page through the scrapbook and to think about what it must have been like.

ANY grey gardens fan would love this

Must have for Eddie beall fans

Review

"Show Sold Separately will rewrite the rules of what we look at when we want to understand how audiences make meaning of media franchises. Gray, who has long established himself in the top ranks of contemporary scholars of popular culture, writes with particularity about these varied media properties and their paratexts, yet also writes with a theoretical sophistication which feels effortless." -Henry Jenkins, author of Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide“Exploring the myriad connections and connotations of a wide array of paratextual materials ranging from movie trailers to action figures, Gray deftly challenges established conceptions of textuality, and opens up intriguing and important new dimensions in media and cultural studies. This is an invaluable contribution, and will change how we think about, and make, media.”-Derek Kompare, author of Rerun Nation: How Repeats Invented American Television

When I began approaching this review I was going to start by saying "The Planets" is not a scientific book. That take wasn't going to be a criticism, simply an observation. There are no data presented in charts and tables, not one photo or illustration - nothing really quantified. And yet Sobel succeeds in a profile of the planets by weaving what they are into a cultural tale. After all, the majority of humans who ever lived had no real idea what those wandering lights were. Sobel juxtaposes planetary knowledge gained robotically in the last half century - knowledge that can seemalmost pedestrian to us - with the long-ago myths and god-like status given to planets as an explanation for them was sought.I once interviewed people for a print publication. As any good interviewer knows, the point is not to simply ask a list of questions and check them off. The key is to begin a conversation with the subject. This process takes longer, as what will be the interview must be found in the taped conversation, and as background information about the subject is fitted around his or her words. So, really, this is what Sobel did - she interviewed the solar system.Although I agree Sobel can be verbose at times, other reviewers have criticized the book's lack of explicit presentation. I think they miss the point. I am not a lay person regarding the subject, but I enjoyed learning about the historically cultural aspects of our neighbors. As one example, Sobel's description of tidal action contains no coefficients, and yet it is an elegant and accessible depiction. This book can be a good starting point for the lay person.

What a great read. Love all Dava Sobel's work. Historical, detailed, and informative.

I met Dava Sobel at an astronomy conference. What a wonderful woman! I have her other two books, Galileo's Daughter and Longitude. Longitude is a MUST READ. This book is also great.

My daughter enjoyed this as part of an Astronomy study.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the premise of this book. It is not intended as a scientific journal elaborating on the most detailed of newly arrived astronomical data. It is informative in a pleasant, albeit, pedestrian way. It is a quick stroll across our solar system, skipping from planet to moon, to comet, to asteroid - like skipping a stone across the surface of a broad deep pool of knowledge. I learned many new things and had my memory jogged on items that had sifted through my memory. It was worth while getting up to speed on the latest discoveries of Viking, Voyager, Galileo, Cassini and other of our space probes. It was also interesting to read a little background of famous astronomers who dedicated their lives to gazing at the heavens.Nevertheless, this book lacks the passionate detail of Sobel's other works. Both "Longitude" and "Galileo's Daughter impelled the reader into the historic drama that she was presenting. There is no particular hero in this descriptive book and that may well a problem. It is more a high school reader chockablock full of facts and information. There is no detail, no in-depth analysis, no personality, no drama here. It is, perhaps, too dispassionate a subject for her keen writing skills.

Great book

Some hard-core science readers might not have liked it, but I though that this book was informative enough, and Dana Sobel's intelligent and poetic writing makes it for what the book might have lacked in scientific depth. A lovely book.

Both of Ms. Sobel's previous books, Longitude and Galileo's Daughter, are works of impressive scholarship and readability--two qualities that don't always go together. In fact, it can be argued that the publication of Longitude revived the genre of popular science writing; in particular, what might be called the sub-genre of "making the obscure exciting." Ms. Sobel has an ability to take a comparatively unknown person in scientific history, make him or her interesting and place him or her in the scope of the larger sweep of scientific history that is unequaled, despite her even most successful imitators. Therefore, it is no surprise that her new book, The Planets, had considerable buzz before its release. Unfortunately, this book is somewhat of a letdown.Ms. Sobel has chosen an interesting subject: the solar system. It is surprising how little the average person knows about this conglomeration of an average star (the sun) and nine (or is it eight now?) planets of which our own earth is but a part. Certainly, the reading public is in need of a book to popularize the solar system, so to speak. It is also true that Ms. Sobel has written an account that is interesting in many ways and definitely up-to-date. The most recent findings of our most traveled probes and deepest-seeing telescopes are recounted here, though it's amazing how quickly even the findings of a few months ago are superseded. Just last week, the discovery of two new moons of Pluto were announced. Already, it is tempting to wonder how this would have changed Ms. Sobel's approach to Pluto and Charon. The sad fact is that this book will soon be out-of-date. Still, it's hard to quibble about something like this, beyond the author's control. What is not hard to quibble about is Ms. Sobel's approach to her material. Unlike her previous book, this one is more idiosyncratic and personal. The conceits she uses to approach each chapter change. This leads to an uneven experience which depends on how the reader reacts to these conceits. For instance, I very much enjoyed the early chapters which seemed to me to be more personal and drawn from Ms. Sobel's own love of the solar system. On the other hand, I found the chapter on Mars--told from the point of view of a Mars meteorite found on earth--and the chapter on Uranus & Neptune--told in the form of a letter by Caroline Herschel--to be irritating. And the light tone of the book as a whole leaves the reader with a sense of only have touched on the solar system superficially when, in fact, there's quite a lot of good information here.I had the great pleasure of meeting Ms. Sobel and speaking to her briefly a couple days ago. As one would expect, she is charming and intelligent. And this book does have many charms which would likely appeal to someone who knows very little about the solar system; however, as I listened to her speak about The Planets, my only desire was to talk to her about Galileo's Daughter. It's sometimes difficult to be fair about a book when the author's previous books are so excellent; however, when a writer sets the bar high by her own work, she has to expect the expectations of her audience. And the fair judgement of this book is, it is uneven--good in places, less so in others--but still worth a read.

Even though there are many books on Thoth and most have been criticized for being fakes, I enjoy getting bits of true info from each. I liked this book for that fact more than some of the others I've read. The real Thoth was a son of Enki known as Ptah in Egypt pre-history. Both corroborated along with Ninharsag to fashion man. His name in Mesopotamia mythology was Ningishzidda.

This book is an eye opener for the initiated and for the uninitiated, it will be a shocker. The Emerald Tablets of Thoth will make a believer out of all but the most skeptical, and those folks, our Lord Jesus couldn't convince them of anything outside their own paradigm. Our Human history is NOT what we have been taught over the past few hundred years. There has been intervention by being who choose to remain out of teh realm of our day to day consciousness but who are gently guiding us along the path back to the Creator. If you can look past your own religious doctrines and teachings, this book WILL answer many questions including the reason the world is in a shambles and politicians all seem like demons who speak falsehood and do the opposite when elected. Its not an accident. This book explains much of how evil got into this world a long time before Judeo-Christian history started. There were advanced humans much closer to the Source we call God, and with each new era a loss of cosmic memory has caused us collectively to forget who we are, we ARE COSMIC CHILDREN, with powers far beyond what we think we are capable. This book is a good start on the march back to Source/God the Creator.

This book has the ultimate answer to life in the end. We are multidimentional spiritual beings and need to relase all attachments to the third dimensional world which allows us to rise into other dimensions.

Wonderful work....a long way from mainstream and probably not for everyone, but as one who is a seeker, wants answers to everything and most of all wants to know who, what and why we are here, I find it an enlightening work.

I've studied the Bible, visited many churches, synagogues, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Dagara, even Kemetic.I've felt different levels of spirit through these venues & on my own throughout life.I have NEVER had a spiritual BOOK that I have felt SO much LOVE & GENTLE COMPASSION POURING OUT from in SUCH an abundance - ON THE SPOT with NO CONTEMPLATION NEEDED - ever before!!!Whereas Yashua in all HIS wonderful compassion has often & still moves me!Djehuti speaks DIRECTLY TO ME!!! to my very SOUL - INSTANTLY! PERSONALLY!!Often while reading through this manuscript tears would simply well up in my eyes because of the unabated unrestricted DIRECT DC current LOVE from this...this ... "being"Where Yahsua uses parables & you can't doubt the love he has for his disciples! It feels somewhat ..second hand or third person in comparison to Djehuti's NO holds barred NO non-nonsense NO riddles or puzzles spoken to YOU (not to some disciples) words!...they reach out beyond time beyond space beyond this dimension and address YOU to your face!!!It makes you feel WORTHY because of this DIRECTNESS!Djehuti ASSURES you that IF you are reading this RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW ------ Baby boy/girl you are READY for this!AND HE KNOWS you ARE!!!If you aint then I am guessing READING WILL MAKE YOU or you are about to BE!!Where Yahshua is "spoken for" & "about"The way the Emerald Tablet reads....it simply FEELS SO VERY PERSONAL ...Djehuti speaks for Himself & He very personably, coordially even, introduces Himself in a way that CLEARLY shows HE KNOWS your questions before you ask...OR He gives you the facts as He demonstrates a FULL understanding of what you NEED or WANT to know about who he IS!Amen! to be honest Djehuti courts you into his warm all-encompassing LOVE not because he is trying to but simply because His LOVE is THAT earnest----- I felt that this man, this being was/IS the ONE who has loves mankind beyond the limits, space & time & of His own heart & His own constitution, His own firsthand recognance! He was not commissioned or contracted or even necessarily BORN to LOVE us!!!MY heart FELT that His love was/is INNATE; who he IS! His Love was & IS DIRECTLY FROM HIS CARE His concern & His KNOWLEGDE of mankind! You get the feeling that Djehuti's TRUE desire was/is to ASSIST in mankind's life HERE on EARTH not just in an after-life!Djehuti's desire is to bring us ALL the knowlege and ability we can handle & then some!Whereas you will hear that this is Yahshua's "purpose"you feel like you just KNOW (with no need of someone telling you) that this is Djehuti's PERSONAL JOY & FULFILLMENT!!!I just don't know how to fully express the sweet orgasmic intimacy one may feel or should feel from this... Master!YES! you will WANT Djehuti to be YOUR master ....this ironically is what many of us humans unknowingly & often knowingly want!...to worship something someone (our movie stars, our sports heroes, our children our lovers etc.) as well as a Jesus/Yahshua or God!With Djehuti you KNOW He is THE ONE you've been looking for...you FEEL it!BUTin the same breath you KNOW He is not that interested in that worship!Djehuti tells you FLAT OUT!(you can) be JUST LIKE HIM & Go beyond this world & BACK as He does by HIS OWN WILL!!!THIS is His MAIN desire for us to KNOW that the light comes from WITHIN "YOU" not ANYWHERE ELSE!!!This is what He KNOWS & this is ONE of the many things He teaches us so that we can KNOW TOO!Thank you SO much Djehuti!!!Thank you so, so much for your timeless LOVE for us my heart is blessed by you! That is POWERFUL that is LOVE that is CARING that is SHARING!!!

Reading the Emerald Tablet was like reading a personal letter or diary from Thoth, the Atlantean. He was a "sun" of man and chose to teach the Children of Man. Many people will be surprised to find the Early Christian teachings began in ancient Egypt with the teachings of Thoth and the Children of Light!

I love this book. It really puts thing into perspective and I look forward to learning more about the universe with this book to aid me every now and again.

A great collection of stories and voices from a wide range of up and coming writers. I think everyone can find at least a few stories in here that they can relate to or that will feel terrifyingly familiar to them. Definitely worth picking up!

My 15yo has really enjoyed this one!

I thought that LOVE & PROFANITY would be like the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, filled with true banal stories with cute twists and funny endings. I thought the stories would be about teens who were older than me (at 16, I still have a lot to learn about the trials of teenage life), and that I wouldn’t relate to them. I was wrong --- the stories struck me as honest and relevant.Unfortunately, I didn’t come to appreciate this until I was a quarter into the book because the introduction was a bit misleading --- it highlighted a few of the stories, but it didn’t explain why they were all placed together in the same book. I suppose it was my job to solve the case. The table of contents split the stories up into four groups: “Love and Profanity,” “Love and Physics,” “Love and Madness” and “Love and Apologies.” Honestly, I could have placed any of the stories into any of these very broad categories. I would have preferred that the editor split them according to the age of the writer, or if they had just been divided into parts one through four.I received the uncorrected proof of the book, which didn’t include writers’ bios or an index. This was troubling at first, but once I got about half of the way through, I was glad I could read the stories without being influenced by the authors’ backgrounds.Happily, I loved most of the stories and I did figure out why they all fit into one book: they did not tell you what teenage life should be like, but they showed you what it is like. None of the authors begged the reader to learn from their mistakes. Rather, they shared a bit about themselves in hopes that you would listen. From the title and cover I did not know that this book would be one of the sweetest and most terrifyingly authentic things I've read. None of the stories were groundbreaking or shocking; they were simply beautiful and honest. For example, “Confession” by Anika Fajardo highlighted the butterflies of a first crush. She wonderfully described feelings that we have all felt before, explaining “[t]he thought of saying his name out loud—even in the dark, even to my best friend—made me feel like I was standing in my underwear in homeroom.” On a more serious note, “A Most Dangerous Game” by Alexis Wiggins showed me that girls don’t know that the world is a game more dangerous than they think, and they are more naive than they know. After she recalls her childhood of hoping boys would like her, wearing dresses with a stuffed bra and high heels, she tells us about the time she was almost raped, and how the world had ill-prepared her for this. She writes, “and you felt lighter-fluid flames of anger rise in you at the teacher who taught the wrong lesson. Or at the girl in the back row, in her cheap dress and scuffed heels, drawing hearts around boys’ names, hoping.” This story (confusingly categorized in “Love and Physics) sent chills down my spine.I would love if a future edition updated the introduction and table of contents, so readers don’t feel confused and assume mediocrity. Because really, these are undeniably genuine and heartfelt stories --- teen readers, give them a try!Reviewed by Maya B.

Love & Profanity edited by Nick Healy(2.84 rounded to) 3 starsThis is another short story analogy/ essay collection that had the potential to be great but fell flat. Love & Profanity revolves around author essays on true events in their lives. I haven’t read any essay anthologies before this, but I know that several out there, like Bully, exist and are highly acclaimed in hopes that young readers will pick them up seeing high profile authors’ names on the covers. It’s a good marketing skill, but I don’t think I know almost any of these authors. Almost all of them are names I’ve never heard of before and I think that lessened my connection. I have a theory that if I know what an author writes like and follow them on social media then I’ll be more likely to enjoy reading snippets of their teen lives and experiences. Since I knew almost none of these authors, I’m putting stock into that theory for this anthology (I’ll test that theory with Bully later on). This collection is huge- 84 stories- if I counted correctly and most of the essays are brief. I think the longest one was ten or twelve pages so it’s hard to judge writing style completely for every story, but I had my trusty notebook and pink pen handy while reading and was able to chronicle all my thoughts while reading. (It’s a good thing I did that since I read this collection literally one year ago.) My formatting will be the essay, rating, brief thoughts, and then some research I compiled on the author.Three Stories About Water & Vomiting by Adam Rex- 1 starI personally wasn’t impressed by this story. I considered it to be lame and irrelevant and probably the worst way to start a collection of essays. The first story should be good enough to make me want to keep going, no lackluster enough to make me question continuing with the collection because it makes me question how good the rest will be.After Teen Years- Besides having a dinosaur last name, Adam doesn’t focus his genre writings to dinosaurs, but illustrious characters such as vampires and Frankenstein. His most famous novel is The True Meaning of Smekday, which is MG science fiction. He also wrote Fat Vampire, which his only story I ever heard of.Breathless by Heather Sellers- 2 starsApparently this essay touches on all the things that I consider to be very unsafe. After Teen Years-Sellers is predominately a writer of short stories and creative writing non-fiction. Her most famous piece of work is a memoir focusing on her neurological condition that prevents her from remembering peoples’ faces.Girl Fight by Joey Franklin- 3 starsInteresting perspective on what a young man thought about the label of “fat” and dating a fat girl. After Teen Years- Franklin made his debut in 2015 with a collection of essays surrounding what it’s like to be a middle-aged white man with balding hair.Power Drift by Jon Scieszka- 1 starWhat an idiot. After Teen Years- This man writes a lot of essays, and children’s stories. He has over 144 distinct works on GR- impressive.Polypropylene by Ali Catt- 4 starsPretty sad that this captures how a lot of teen girls treat each other. After Teen Years-Only featured in Love & Profanity and I can’t find anything about her. Elusive. Why Is It Wet Here? By Carrie Mesrobian- 3 starsA pretty funny story about a party and a party failure. After Teen Years- She’s the writer of Sex & Violence (which I’m excited to read) and that story from last year that everyone hated called Cut Both Ways.M-E-L-I-S-S-A by Melissa Brandt- 3.5 starsEssay about a girl who is very unattached from her father. After Teen Years- Debut author of a novel called Chased by Fame.I Don’t Believe You by Clint Edwards- 2.5 starsAn embarrassing story about Edwards crapping his pants in high school. Poor soul. After Teen Years- Debut author of a collection humorous nonfiction piece on parenting and marriage.Vietnam, Minnesota by Pete Hautman- 2 starsA story about him befriending a Vietnam vet and going way too fast in a speeding car. After Teen Years- This guy has written a lot of novels in the YA and MG genre. I checked out his novel Sweetblood once at the library during my vampire phase and never read it.Island Girls by Kasandra Duthie- 2 starsThe story focuses on Duthie’s teen years on two islands. After Teen Years- She’s featured in this anthology. The Ranks of a Million Guys by Kwame Alexander- 1 starFocuses on Alexander’s experience on becoming the number one tennis player in hopes of impressing the girl he likes. After Teen Years- A writer of poems, children’s books, and YA fiction in free verse form. This guy won a Newbery!Confession by Anika Fajardo- 2 starsShe confesses her crush to her best friend and then ends the essay with a sentence about dying at the dance? After Teen Years- She’s a nonfiction writer.First Gear by Melodie Heide- 3.5 starsAfter recently losing her mother, Heide finds solace in a guy who kind of likes her back. After Teen Years- According to Amazon, her work has appeared in numerous publications. She writes about transient life. The First Time I Had Sex, My Mouth Was Numb by Kyra Anderson- 4.5 starsOne of the most awkward and truthful representations of first time sex plus it has a killer title. After Teen Years- She’s a mother of an autistic child and collaborated on a project about what it’s like.Ambushed by Andrew Gottlieb- 2.5 starsThe story focuses on Gottlieb’s experiences working on a painting team during the summer as a teenager. After Teen Years- He’s a writer of reviews, poems, essays, and memoirs.A Ghost in the Mall by Natalie Singer -4 starsA reflection of Singer going to the mall after school and not being able to buy anything due to her poor family life and being blessed with an okay-face; a very touching story. After Teen Years- Her author profile is to funny to not just copy and paste: “Natalie Singer was born and half-raised in Montreal, Canada, before being uprooted and moved―at age 16―to the mythical, ice-cream-colored land of California, where she had to finish raising herself. There, she discovered burritos, tried to become cool on the streets of San Francisco, and made out with lots of frogs before she finally found a prince. She's now a writer in Seattle.”A Most Dangerous Game by Alexis Wiggins- 5 starsMy favorite essay of the collection! Essay focusing on the perils of being a young woman and has a chilling scene where her co-worker says that someday he’ll rape someone and it could be Wiggins.“It wasn’t men who were hunted.”After Teen Years- She’s been writing since she was little, but has yet to publish a novel. I think this is her first time being published in a book! The Causeway by Margaret MacInnis- 3 starsFocuses on when Margaret is eight-years-old and sees her father not being able to do the things he used to because of age. After Teen Years- She has a lot of essays published in review publications and that’s cool.Orchard by Kim Lozano- 2.5 starsEssay about the time she offers a place to stay for a young lady who seems to be on the run. After Teen Years- She’s an editor of a literary magazine and teaches creative writing. Her poetry has been published.Weightless by Steve Brezenoff- 2 starsBrezenoff was a wallflower who attended a party. After Teen Years- This is the only author who I knew by name for sure because I used to want to read his book The Absolute Value of-1.After the Party by Geoff Herbach- 1 starI honestly have no clue what even happened in this essay. After Teen Years- He has a lot of published YA novels and his most popular is the title Stupid Fast.On the Third Day by Tom Moran- 2.5 starsDirty fighting! After Teen Years- Has a humorous novel called Dinosaurs and Prime Numbers. How to Succeed by Actually Trying by Dayna Evans- 3 starsDiscusses Evans meeting full potential as an already smart student and pushing herself. After Teen Years- She’s been published in two essay collections.Ten Years Ago by Sarah Beth Childers- 3.5 starsA deep essay focuses on ten years ago from Childer’s perspective and then twenty years as time goes by.After Teen Years- Write short stories and has been featured in two YA ones and her own essay collection.End of the Half by Patrick Hueller- 1 starFocuses on Hueller’s coach getting mad at his failure of a basketball team. After Teen Years- He has a few published indie works.Suspended by Kyle Minor- 1.5 starsWhen Minor finally got rid of one bully he gets cornered by his brother. After Teen Years- He has several short stories and novellas published into personal collections.Girl/Thing by Anna Vodicka- 3.5 starsThe story focuses on Vodicka’s experience as a babysitter and being taken advantage of by the father. After Teen Years- It says in her profile she’s doesn’t miss babysitting. It’s funny, but it’s not because of the incident she went through.Saying Goodbye to Anna by Jackie Buckle- 5 starsI just realized the author above the before story is named Anna; did they do that on purpose?Another absolute favorite about “Anna” or anorexia and it was absolutely harrowing and beautiful. After Teen Years- She wrote something called Half My Facebook Friends are Ferrets and lol.The Catch by Melissa Cistaro- 1.5 starsThe mother finds beauty in fish guts? Love & Profanity is a fascinating collection of short stories about love, life, and growing up as seen through the eyes of a teenager. The selected authors tell stories from their respective teenage years and allow for the reader to relate to at least one if not more of the experiences told.Although my high school years are behind me, I found myself able to relate to the stories of lost friendships and peer pressure. The feeling of being the only person in a room full of people. Love & Profanity is written for the young adult audience, but I believe it is a must read for people of all ages. It helps you look back on those formative years and allows you to realize that you survived and that not everything was as awful as it seemed. It may even provide some closure for some readers. I know I found myself relating to the story of a girl who lost her best friend to the "popular" clique. A common occurrence for many a teenager and a story that shows how it can be a haunting loss for some time, even when you believe you've moved on.This is a well written collection of stories and, as I stated, it is a book for readers of all demographics. It is a book of how we all grow up and face life and whatever it may throw at us.http://novelideareviews.blogspot.com/2015/10/love-profanity-by-various-authors.html

What a perfectly adorable and VERY WELL crafted little book...perfect size for little hands! My one year old grandson just adored it when he saw it amongst his Easter gifts! The "flaps or doors" on each page just fascinated him as did the very vibrant colors and busy scenes on every single page! He still loves it and looks at it almost every day...picks it up by himself to look at without prompting from mom, dad or older brother! Lovely, lovely little book, so pleased I picked this one out of all I looked at!

I can't wait to give my little one this!! It's so cute and the perfect size for their little hands! Also, it has little "doors" you can open.

Bought this for my one year old grandson's Easter basket. He loved it. The flaps are sturdy and the book is very colorful. At 5 in x 5 in, it is just the right size. He can carry it around and look at it very easily on his own, too.

Perfect for a two year old. Sturdy pages.

My 14 month old makes me read her this book at least 30 times a day! She loves it.

toddler Easter - just right

A book for my Great Granddaughter at Easter.

She loves this book. I wish it had a little more substance to it (like Little Green Frog), but it’s cute and she loves lifting the flaps.
