I didn't understand what the key banking principle was so I decided to purchase his book, How to Own Your Home Years Sooner & Retire Debt Free (U.S. Edition).Book Review:I devoured the book in three days! Mr. Gill is an educator and it clearly show’s throughout his book. He ensures that the most important principles are explained in a way that you won’t forget. One example is The Key Banking Principle: "The interest on your mortgage is calculated on the DAILY OUTSTANDING BALANCE and charged at the end of the month (called monthly in arrears)." He does an excellent job at helping you understand what The Key Banking Principle is and how you can use it to your advantage.He also exposes a lot of myths and bad information circulating about money and mortgages. Hopefully this review can provide you with basic information to make a better decision.I am a husband, father, and a high school teacher with a strong desire and interest in the concept of paying off our two mortgages; the one for our rental and the one for our primary home. My initial inquiries for more information began online, migrated to YouTube, and then eventually took me to my local bookstore. It was during my YouTube search that I came across the video presentation and the book, “own your home years sooner…”. I purchased and read it over two days and suddenly felt empowered with a tactical plan to accomplish our goal. I understood the concept but wanted to ensure my best understanding. For that reason, I reached out to the author, Harj Gill, to cultivate a relationship which could surround me with a mentor to help us accomplish our goals. I’m very glad that I did.Part of the tactical plan of the book is to help us lay out a specific road map which allows us to see the power of the strategy as it ‘kills off’ the loan(s) over time. The program shows you the impact of what cash injections have on the length of the loan and the amount of interest that is saved. The results of these reports, however, are only as good as the accuracy of the information. I actually made my own table in Excel and I believed that my table could give me the specific information needed to sustain the discipline which the strategy requires. What I discovered is that Harj’s program, the Speed Equity Software, is more thorough because it has more input variables than my table. The short story here is that moving forward; Harj’s software program will be what I will be using.Please note the words that I used in the previous chapter. Each of these elements is necessary. They were ‘specific information’, ‘sustain’, and ‘discipline’. You will need specific inputs to produce the best and most accurate results. Accuracy is the key. You will also need stamina and discipline to sustain this endeavor. In all likelihood, this will take time, in many cases multiple years. Both spouses need to see the vision otherwise it will be very difficult to see the goal through completion with only one of you on-board. Finally, let me add another term; positive cash flow. This is not for everyone and you do need positive cash flow at the end of the month in order to make this a reality. If you do not have positive cash flow, you will need to discover ways to create it, and or save it. Positive cash flow is not covered in this book but you will need it just the same. A great first step towards positive cash flow is a budget. I mean a real budget, one that tells you exactly what your income is and where you are spending each of your dollars. There are many factors that produce success, but the more positive cash flow that you have the greater your results.If you are serious about paying off your mortgage and want a step-by-step plan that will put you on the ‘correct track’ to see your goal, without breaking the bank to get informed, then this is a book that ought to be in your library.

This would have been a really special read if I had not read it before. Called "The Marco Effect: Department Q" novelwhich is the exact same book so whatever you do if you have read The Marco Effect, do NOT order this book.They are one and the same book and I am astounded that Amazon did not pick up on this!!

Unfortunately, Jussi Adler-Olsen's books are sometimes published under different titles. This book is the same as "Marco Effect", which I had already read. It is an well written crime novel that is so much more. The characters are intriguing and, in each of his novels, one learns more about the Department Q characters. That doesn't mean you need to read every novel in order to enjoy them, but it does mean that you can't wait to get your hands on the next one. And, you are very disappointed when the book is one you have already read and added to your collection, just under a different title.

''Buried'' is another great installment of the ''Department Q'' book series and it is a worthy successor of the previous four books in which we met Carl Mork, his mysterious sidekick Assad and the bizarre secretary named Rose. This book is about the story of an abused child who manages to escape from his tormentors who force him to work as a beggar, and his days of hiding from both his old gang and the police who are searching for him frantically. ''Buried'' is a highly underrated book as many people seem to believe that it is actually the worst of the ''Department Q'' novels but i think that this is wrong as the book has a lot of good qualities such as suspense, action a good plot and the trademark of Jussi Adler Olsen, the acerbic humor, especially in the Carl-Assad interactions. If you are a fan of the series you certainly don't want to miss this one!

The Marco Effect, is a better name for this book, as he does affect you, you cannot help but fall for the poor child and want someone to help him. It's heartbreaking and sad to know similar real life stories go on, obviously not to this degree, but children left without love or care, which is why Marco pulls at the heart strings. Besides that there is the typical mess of Dept Q, camels abound, a little sex in the office, new bosses & with two cases to solve everyone's working hard at it ..... of course it will all be figured out in the end and not without a giggle or two, and some extreme respect for the author and translator for making this series so very special.

I was quite a few pages into this latest Department Q story when I actually went back to the book description just to make sure I actually had a Department Q book. It does take quite a bit of the story before Carl and Co. actually make an appearance.The "guest" in this story, as given in the book description, is a 15 year old boy, Marco. What he can't do to escape his tormentors just isn't worth worrying about - he is the slickest, smartest, most street-wise 15 year old running! That does get just a teeny, tiny bit tedious but, as usual Carl & Co win the day - and I can't wait for Department Q No. 6 to be released. And I am wondering if there is going to be a little of the Lincoln Rhymes about this next book???? Just my personal thought!

Another delightful read in Adler-Olsen's "Q" series. A more complex, darker plot than the light-hearted stories of the previous 4 books in the series. Serious corruption at the very senior levels of commerce, illegal immigrants to Denmark, and the African mafia all combine to make an intriguing mix of horror and dastardly deeds. Carl Morck and his colleagues, Assad & Rose, don't make an appearance until 10% into the book - so the reader needs to persevere while awaiting the return of the favourite three. Assad & Rose excel themselves in their approach to crime detection and Carl almost plays "second fiddle" to his quirky, likeable offsiders. I anxiously await the arrival of Book 6 in the series.

Not up to the usual standard of the first four Dept Q novels. I actually kept going back to the cover to make sure I had the right book when I started reading it, as it didn't sound like Jussi's writing at all, not for a long time. Everything gradually unfolds but it takes a long time and I missed the usual characters for half a book. Some things were just all over the place and some were just too coincidental too often. A great story in the end, and very enjoyable.

Ouch! why was this book re titled when it first was sold as the Marco effectNot. Fair to say the leastI started reading a page or two. Then discovered this fact. I am trying to return this "sheep in wolf's clothing"

So I have been reading occult detectives since I first started to read when I was a child. So I have been over the moon that in the last few years they have taken off as much as they have. Some are very good, some are better than others and some, well they need some work. This is one that needs some work.1. In the first book we are told that the protagonist has at least one brother and one sister and they both keep rooms at Uncle Luke's home. However, the writer seems to have forgotten this and recreates the amount, the ages of and the genders of his siblings in every story.2. If you are going to write a story about the four horsemen of the Apocalypse you should maybe read the book they are based on. Death rides a pale horse, not famine. Famine rides a white horse. The folks who read these kinds of stories tend to know these kinds of things.It has been about a month ago since I read this work and though at the time many more examples of the sloppiness of these stories jumped out at me these were the two that still stick with me.I am also not impressed with how he seems to have shoe horned in an ongoing female character that he does not seem to care much for. It seems as if he wanted to make this book a boys club and then realized at the last minute that at least 1/2 the people who read books are female. The man has talent and he can tell a good story he just need to not be so lazy and sloppy in how he does so. I have read another one of his series and chalked it up to new writer inexperience, but sadly this was not so. I will not buy anything else by this author.

Hartness is the author of the "Black Knight" books about a pair ofCharlotte based vampires. I'm not sure that series is over, butat any rate it is on hold while he writes Quincy Harker stories.This book is a collection of four Quincy Harker novellas (apparentlypublished under separate covers at some point) which cover the firstyear of his official career.Harker is the daughter of Mina Harker (yes, that one), and due toDracula having given her his blood, Quincy ages very slowly and haspowers beyond those of ordinary humans. He is also something of amage, though I'm not clear if that goes with the vampire heritage oris just something he picked up.Harker now lives in Charlotte NC, as does his "uncle" Dracula (who wasforced by the events in the famous book to somewhat re-evaluate hismode of living among humans and adopt a less murderous lifestyle).As the first novella starts, Harker is a freelance demon hunter chargedwith exorcising a young girl, in the event not very successfully (thoughthough there was nothing anyone could have done). We see his testyrelationship with the Charlotte police department as he keeps turningup at inexplicable and bloody events and the down-at-the-heels way helives. (Though it's not clear why he couldn't use magic to earn somemoney.. there doesn't seem to be any code against it).This introduction is the standard "show a typical case for the guy andthen kick in the main plot" as Harker unexpectedly gets an offer fromthe (newly established) paranormal branch of Homeland Security to lendhis expertise to keeping the country safe.It is clear to me that Harry Dresden is very much a factor in theQuincy Harker stories. You can see it in his lifestyle, his pricklyrelationship to authority, his growing infatuation with his policeliaison and his insistence about doing the "right thing" consequencesbe damned. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. There are worseUrban Fantasy models, and these tales are entertaining enough thatI will probably seek out the next volume.There are a few rough edges. His relationship with the policedetective seems to be going too fast, especially given her establishedboyfriend, and I'm pretty sure the make of Harker's piece-of-crapcar changed without explanation. Also one victim character feelsas though he began being written as a pretty savvy dude, if a bitof a stoner, and then got changed into a moron without his introductionbeing updated. Then there's the way Harker enters into a bad bargainwith a demon for a particular piece of information, when the naturalthing to do would have been to first make an effort to establishit himself. (Ie: if you want information about what goes on at aparticular place, at least go to that place yourself before puttingyourself in hock to a demon..). Still, a pleasant enough introduction.

Holy crap, what a foul mouthed, demon filled, laugh riot. If you've read my other reviews you know I'm and Author's & Dragons fan and Hartness is one of that motley crew. Quincy, or Q if you will is a character that any fan of the magic/fantasy genera will instantly grab on to... as long as you're ok with a little foul language and pro wrestling references ;) Hartness weaves together a tapestry of words that paint pictures on your soul.

I am now very messed up because I have another new favorite hero character I want to follow and a new author to keep track of. There just aren't enough hours in the day for all the stuff I have to do and all the reading I want to do as well. John Hartness has just made it worse with this outstanding story. I absolutely adore Quincy Harker! This is a crazy cross between "Lethal Weapon," "Dracula," and "Young Frankenstein." I already have the next two books. Who has time for reviews?

Another winner by Hartness. Read it in one. Couldn't put it down. The language, the characters, everything is perfect for this book. The book, by the way is made up of novella's but don't worry, they feed into the same characters, just different cases, so no worries. Violent and funny…don't miss it. Really, I mean it…it's a good one.

Cheeky white-hat demon wizard and hunter, Quincy Harker faces an abundance of trouble (and causes trouble) to save the world from a multitude of Big Bads.

Great new character (for me anyway). Fast paved, the novellas each picking up one after the other. I don't mind the swearing but I wish there would be a more judicious use of the MF. After all swearing is an art.

I literally just finished this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the characters and their dialogue, as well as the direction each story went. I get the feeling the Mr. Hardness was really getting his legs under him and then he got to running. I can't tell anyone who reads this how much they should check this out.

I've read virtually every book on vegan/plant-based health and this one is one of my favorites! As the title implies, it is incredibly comprehensive. It covers every single nutrient you'll be incessantly pestered about as a vegan... Where do you get your protein? Omega 3's? B12? Iron? Zinc? Selenium?.... On and on and on... Instead of trying to dig through the sincerely questionable advice being regurgitated across the blog-o-sphere, it's so much easier to have a well-written, well-researched guide available at any time. Get this book, learn how to feed yourself, and rock on as a super healthy, long-term, successful, and knowledgable vegan!

After reading Becoming Raw, I felt that my diet was sub-par, to say the least. I had started a raw diet several months previous to reading Becoming Raw, following the advice of several "experts," much of which turned out to be dangerous to my health. I decided a completely raw diet was not healthful for me, and returned to veganism with cooked foods and ordered this book for guidance because I so trusted the authors.Becoming Vegan is the most thorough (and easy-to-read) book on veganism that I have found, and has a ton of research for further study. The authors are both registered dieticians and completely honest about the often-missed and neglected areas of veganism. They offer easy and doable suggestions on correcting imbalances in the diet.After taking the information in this edition to heart and putting it into practice, my follow-up lab tests have confirmed that many of the imbalances and problems I had previously, before reading Becoming Raw and Becoming Vegan, have been corrected. Those that have not been corrected completely are showing improvement with time. I highly recommend Becoming Vegan, for anyone considering or already following a vegan lifestyle.(As a side note, Cooking Vegan - the "companion" to this book - is often mentioned in Becoming Vegan. The recipes are very simple and I could see how it may help a person unfamiliar with veganism to more easily adapt; I would not recommend for long-time vegans, though.)

For anyone who needs to be a total herbivore, this is an excellent source and resource for the nutrition aspects of veganism. It deserves a 5-star rank. That said, there are a few things a buyer should know.Don’t let the first chapter put you off. That’s the one about the philosophical/environmental/Progressive/animal rights need for Vegans. The authors get that over with early and don’t bring it up again. If that’s all you care about, you will be disappointed. However if you are facing life-threatening illness and need to know the nutritional aspects of your food, this book is for you.There is quite a bit of repetition, much of it unnecessary. The trouble there is the resultant huge size of the Index, which makes it hard to look up subjects. There’s just too much. Sometimes I could not tell which letter of the alphabet was showing. That should be corrected with dictionary guides in the upper corners of the pages.Some items are clearly unnecessary. I would argue that the niacin content of durians is irrelevant. Most people who can read this book (i.e. English speaking) would not venture anywhere near a durian.I purchased this book because it was recommended by Michael Greger, M.D. (“How Not to Die”). If you have to go herbivore and need a good nutritional reference, this is it.

A comprehensive resource for people interested in improving their diet, even if you don't decide to become vegan.

This book was a great read. I actually started with the Kindle version and ended up also getting the paper version because I wanted to continually refer back to various parts of it for nutritional information. I have been vegan over a year now and found this book a comprehensive addition to my nutrition library that anyone trying to be vegan at any level could use. It is written in ways that a non-nutritionist can deal with but is also very thorough. If you are considering going vegan, whole food plant based for health reasons alone, which is what I did, then you might find the first chapter on animal issues a bit too much and you could skip it and not miss anything relative to diet. However, if you are driven by animal issues as well as health issues then don't skip the first chapter. Beyond the first chapter the authors cover every single aspect you could possibly be interested in relative to going vegan in a healthy way.

This book is not much like other volumes that Merwin had already published. That says something about the time in which it was written. The poems are built from bare and austere images of things to signify a sense of loss most likely due to an early mid-life crisis magnified by the social crisis of the Vietnam War. These pieces feel incomplete and yet click with us if we have passed through similar periods.

Really strange that there were no reviews, so I figured I would add my 2 cents. This is a book that cemented Merwin's style and initiated themes that continued to evolve in subsequent works--topically elusive, void of punctuation. short lines and short poems, deeply rooted in nature and consciousness, building upon a participation mystique; this is one of the most significant and influential early deep-imagistic works. "Now all my teachers are dead except silence". The Lice first came out in the midst of Viet Nam and ecological crises, and re-issue at present regrettably is all too apt."When the war is over--we will be proud of course the air will be--Good for breathing at last..." I imagine these poems as prayers from the time of Neolithic hunters perhaps 30,000 years ago trying to understand an unknown and essentially unknowable animistic universe. One approach would be the Lascaux caves. These poems also could be their responses, shared around a guttering evening fire .perhaps in that same cave.

Jordan tells his life story in the form of a novel and takes a lot of liberties in order to get his point across. That being said, it is easily forgiven and should absolutely be filed under non-fiction; it is a wonderfully blunt contribution to the saga of the "American dream."The author does a great job of establishing his frame of mind and his mood in the given situation with his use of language and structure. He does not write things like "that made me angry." His sentences get shorter, his words get harsher, and his venom becomes tangible.Well executed, fun romp through depravity at warp speed. Folks who are upset by the curse words and descriptions of sex, drugs, and excessive spending need to get over themselves. Jordan Belfort will not be censored by your old fashioned notions of etiquette and weak sensibilities.Enjoy, folks. This is Goodfellas on paper, with corporate murders instead of real ones.

I happened to see Wolf of Wall Street in the theater before I read the book, and bought the Kindle copy when it was $1.99 during an Oscar week Gold Box sale. Having enjoyed the film immensely, I was curious as to how the book held up in comparison.Having seen the film before reading the book is a blessing and a curse. Certain expectations may not be met, but preconceived notions can also allow the reader to pay closer attention to detail. In this case, I felt the spirit of Jordan Belfort in both his writing and Terence Winter's screenplay; both portray him appropriately as a sick, depraved individual whose high-roller lifestyle, and criminal activities in running a brokerage firm spiraled out of control in drug-induced decadence. Names have been changed, for example, Belfort's wife, Nadine Caridi, becomes Naomi Lapaglia, but the personalities and appearances remain nearly the same. A lot of the time, I thought to myself, "Oh, I know who that is!"I felt the film told a more cohesive story, in spite of its three-hour length, whereas the book meandered in and out of moments. Many of the events were condensed into the film, such as Belfort's drive home on quaaludes and subsequent events are a composite of different incidents that occur over multiple chapters. What I did not expect, and actually surprised me as the most compelling aspect of the book was Belfort's battle with drug addiction and subsequent antics while in rehab. By his inevitable arrest, I actually pitied him. A weakness of the film is that it glosses over Belfort's upswing during and after rehab.Unlike with the film, the more salacious, criminal, and business aspects of this story were still rather shocking in the book, but after a while, they became tedious. At least with the film, Scorsese took some artistic license to include more humor and take the Strattonites activities to levels of parody, which I enjoyed immensely.So where does my review end up with the book? Well, I thought Belfort's (and his editors, I guess) writing style was enthusiastic enough to hold my interest, I appreciated the more vivid characterizations and insight into his lifestyle, as well as the focus on his battle with drug addiction, but it didn't completely captivate me until the end when he regained at least some redemption by achieving sobriety. Even by the end, the book's denouement is a depressing ordeal.I appreciate it for what the book is - a decent, modern cautionary tale that money can't buy happiness and how drug addiction can ruin lives. However, I feel like I appreciate the film more for it's entertainment value, top notch production, and more effective treatment of the story.

I gave this 5 stars, not because it is a good read or a truthful memoir, but because it is a fine example of criminal psychology and drug addiction.The supposed facts related by Belfort must be taken with a large dose of salt. He readily admits with some pride deceiving everyone he deals with including his wife and supposed friends and business partners. We would be quite gullible to then take his writing at face value. He portrays himself as generous to a fault, but of course the money he passes out is mostly stolen. The judgement against him included a requirement to pay over 100 million in retribution to those he defrauded. Most of that has never been paid even though his income from books and movie rights is quite substantial. By the way his sentence was lighter than those of all his cohorts because he turned against them when the law caught up with him. This after spilling a lot of ink in his book about loyalty, trust and "omerta." Does he still have hidden assets that rightfully belong to the victims? You guess. I bet he does.He tries to present himself as a reformed bad actor who has seen the light and conquered his addiction. I hope he has conquered his addictions, but that wasn't his only problem. He is quite intelligent and seen as such by all around him. The schemes he ran were carefully designed and couldn't have been conceived and executed while stoned, so there is more to this than addiction. The most important part of the story is left out. How did a broke guy starting at the very bottom of a major brokerage firm get to be a criminal millionaire? That's the guts of the real story, and it was left out.
