While not mincing words about his perception of the state of the Methodists today, Watson gives hope and understanding for the future of the Methodist faith by taking you back to the foundational principles that gave life to the Methodists. What was even more interesting is that any Christian, not just Methodists, can read this book and apply those priciples to their own lives. Wesley's general rules truly are a "blueprint for discipleship" and are not just applicable to those of one faith.

This book is wonderul! We have used it as a basic guide for a class at our church for people who want to know how to go about putting being a believer into action. It is concise, but powerful. I love this book!

Kecia Ali provides an amazingly clear and lucid writing on this very difficult and complex topic.She has a knack for being able to connect the past with the present as it relates to medieval muslim thinking about gender, sex, marriage, divorce, slavery, intimacy and a whole basket of related topics with the ethics related to them.Ms. Ali's other detailed and wonderfully intricate book titled Marriage and Slavery in Early Islam coupled with this book is a perfect introduction to Muslims and non-Muslims alike who want to understand the "structure" and "objectives" of these institutions as they took form and evolved in the minds of the pre-modern/medieval Muslim scholars.Her discussion on this topic is timely and the relevance to today's Muslim scholars, thinkers and policy makers is absolute and is elaborated in a very clear and comprehensive fashion.

This book is amazing! It's hard to say too much about it. The authors clarity and style are so great, she trusts the reader and brings out the moral/legal ambiguities and she lays things out so the reader can draw their own conclusion. Reading this book is like looking at life through a new lens, so much food for thought I marked it up and forced all of my friends tor read it. Those that don't are subjected to a summary of the main arguments anyways. I can't say enough about it!

I bought the 2nd edition which was way cheaper than the newer version for pennies on the dollar and it is just as good as the one's my friends bought for $50 dollars. I bought this book to help write care plans for pediatrics. It is a pretty good book and very easy to use. The pathophysiology in the book is pretty simple so I had to use other resources for that. I found repeating interventions with repeating rational for several of the peds careplans. It did save me time from searching peer reviewed rational specific to pediatrics. I would recommend the book as a source but it probably isn't going to help you write your entire careplan. I hope to be able to use again for mental health careplans.

Bathsheba's grandmother speaking to her of prophecy for example, or them riding around in a giant ship.Bathsheba and her counterparts are taught to hunt the humans who time and time again maliciously slay whale kind. Particularly, they are hunting for the legendary Toby Wick, who is the most renowned killer of whale kind. Bathsheba is a non-believer, who thinks Toby Wick is the stuff of myth.The whales have their own kind of religion in this that promotes them having a "pure hunt" as if it is a competition in a holier than thou mentality. It was interesting to see a culture that emerges from their legends where the ultimate goal is the defeat Toby Wick.This was a quick read on a fantastical scale and at times some of the descriptions were a bit so fantastical they were hard to imagine. Thankfully, at a few of the points in the story the illustrations help assist in that imagery.I did enjoy this mainly for its deep philosophical aspects and the illustrations, some of the visuals didn't fully display the profound scales this was operating on that could have been made up for in verbal description. I did really enjoy reading this and recommend it for fans of classics with a twist.

I want to start by confessing that I have worked as a Whale and Marine Mammal scientist, so I have some expectations that most of you may not share. First off when I read a book told from a whale's point of view I would like to be able to imagine a whale speaking, rather than some romantic take on what someone imagine's a whale might be like if whales were basically human in their thoughts and beliefs. This book was very disappointing to me because the characters were not whales but some strange hybrids with humans, that apparently have hands and the ability to manufacture objects which are modeled on human technology, such as sailing ships, harpoons, barrels, etc.In addition, this book is needlessly gruesome. I am not a young adult, but I found parts of it very hard and disturbing to read. The premise in this "inversion" ("parody")of Moby Dick, which is most recognizable in the name of the "human" antagonist, "Toby Wick". I actually acknowledge that at first this link escaped me, mainly because I did not see any resemblance to Moby Dick, except in the concept of vengeful whales, an Idea I thought had worn out its welcome with the movie "Orca", also known as "Mindless in the Water."To me this book was a serious disappointment at several levels, however I recognize that to those of you to whom whales are magical creatures, this book might seem deep and sublime. Just be careful about letting impressionable teenagers read it. It probably should come witha sensitivity alert.

There are jaw drooping moments to be sure but the writer, Tina Alexis, never exploits her past to subject the reader to cheap sensationalism. Instead, her story renders the reader in awe of her spirit, as fire-charged as it is.Her memories evoke a not-so-distant past when families hid their closet skeletons in ways not as common today, in part due to a conservative Catholic (with serious connections to the Vatican) upbringing that while familiar to this reader, may seem downright exotic to others. I found the recalled dialogue masterful, never forced, and that which draws out the characters in ways you feel you know these people. And what characters! Wow.I am dying for a sequel. What was Tina Alexis' next chapter? We know (by the book jacket) that she moved to New York and became an actress. I want to know more and soon.In sum, brilliant and full of brio.A must read for anyone who is delivered by a story of transcension.

Intoxicating, raw and honest. This book is truly amazing. What a life. I didn't want it to end, found myself slowing down as the final pages approached. I wanted to savor every word of Tina Alexis Allen's writing. Heartbreaking. Inspiring. A roller coaster of a ride. A truly unique story, and a voice I've never before encountered. A must-read for anyone who loves a well-written, heartfelt... not just memoir... but story.

I loved it! Such an honest telling of one's story, and how she learned how to deal with some of the most unexpected secrets that nobody would suspect to have to deal with. And then, how to deal with how she deals with it! I am not much of a reader, but this was such an interesting and exciting read, that I read the entire book in 2 days! I don't know if I would ever have been able to keep her secrets for as long as she did. I hope to get the chance to be able to someday sit with Tina one day over dinner and learn even more!!

I love memoirs-it's always interesting to me when a person can clearly remember events from their childhood. (because I definitely can) A mark of a really good book or talk to me is if that book or talk inspires you to want to learn more-her observations of her father's involvement with the Catholic church and the Knights and mention of the Freemasons makes me want to dig in to learn more about how those groups formed and have evolved. Thank you for sharing your pain and growth.

My all time favorite cookbook. My mother gave me this book when it first came out and I lost it in Hurricane Katrina. Once we were back in our home, 2 years later, I was able to contact Wendi Schneider - the illustrator, and get another copy, which she autographed for me. It was the FIRST cookbook I replaced from my collection. Since then I have purchased several more as gifts. I have several editions of the original 1901 book the Sesquicentennial Edition is by far one of the best New Orleans cookbooks and a must have for collectors, if you can find one. The new larger one that's out called the Picayune's Creole Cook Book but NOT the Sesquicentennial Edition is just a reprint of the 1901 version and doesn't have the explanations and current measurements in the margins. Don't confuse the two as being the same because they are not.

Compiled from the cooks that were still around when the New Orleans newspaper, The Picayune, realized that they were all dying out and proceeded to seek them out and record all their knowledge for posterity. I bought this book in paperback several years ago and it was fascinating reading alone, and the recipes are a bonus. Now my Granddaughter is starting Chefs school in New York and I bought this Hardback to present to her.

I am a major authenticity freak, especially when it comes to cookbooks! I was expecting the cookbook to be in a modern font and redone for the modern cook. I was excited when I saw that it is a very nicely copied version! I could not be happier.

This is a replacement of the original cook book I owned--inherited from my mother, fingerprints and all--that disappeared. I love it for the eccentricity it displays. For example, a recipe may call for cheese. Maybe when these recipes were written down there was only one type of cheese. There are so many now that finding the best for a recipe can be a challenge, but carry on. The creativity is part of the fun.

The keystone of Creole cultural cooking, the North American culinary tradition, the Picayune has had its finger on the pulse of Louisiana for a long time. Recipes leave lots of room for interpretation, serve more as a guidelines than a hand-holding experience. Only criticism I can offer is that it could use some illustrations. I understand the project is to take all of the Picayune's recipes and put them in a book, but it should be augmented by pictures, it's a cultural tome and should be a joy to read, not just a cooking reference. I expected more of a coffee table book and got a recipe tome.

The "bible" of Creole cookery, originally published in 1901, is an invaluable volume describing Creole cooking at the beginning of the last century. It's a remarkable view of the cooking in America's most food-obsessed city and the home of America's only truly indigenous cuisine. The Sesquicentennial Edition (which will hopefully be re-issued) reproduces almost all the recipes of the original edition, using the original text, but adds marginal annotations showing modern measurements, suggestions for ingredient substitutions, and other information about the recipes that make them accessible to contemporary cooks. It's certainly possible to cook from the original, unannotated editions, but it probably takes a more experienced cook to figure out the quantities and ingredients in many of the recipes.

This cook book makes you want to book a flight to NOLA!--or at least cook like you are already there. This is a high quality reproduction in Celebration of 150 years of the cookbook's printing. The cookbook arrived in perfect/pristine/ready to read/use condition. Print size is most legible. This is a quality production!

Nice cover and binding. I expect the recipes are quite reliable and good. But the quality of the print is not, as the ink is poor and very faint in some places. Further, the size has been reduced, making it even more difficult to read the faded text. I was going to give this to an avid cook and fan of Creole dishes, but it's more of a reference book for comparison purposes perhaps, and not something to be used on a frequent basis.

Pretty good. There aren't a lot of vegan air fryer recipes out there so I'm glad I got it. But she uses a lot of vegan fake food, so there isn't a lot for whole food vegans.

The Jalapeño Poppers recipe is DELICIOUS!! Like the 4th of July in my mouth! Thank you, J.L.

First of all, JL is a real person who cooks real food - she doesn't try to pretend all vegan food is HOLY or HEALTHY - she goes more for DELICIOUS and cruelty-free.. I love this book and my air fryer is one gadget my husband will use without question or fear.. he's a bit intimidated by the pressure cooker, but the air fryer gets daily use here! I'm eager to attend a "live" demo soon and to use this book for amazing recipes and advice. Hey - I try to cut oil and fats and because every recipe is a SUGGESTION of what worked for JL and multiple testers.. that doesn't mean we can't change it up to suit ourselves! I already love this book - it's gorgeous (much like JL herself), the recipes make sense, the feel and texture of the book itself are wonderful.. so glad I've got it!!

I can't even describe how much I love this book. I've only had it a day and have already done two recipes. The doughnut holes and jalapeño poppers. Pictures attached. If I had more ingredients I'd be busy making everything all night. Buy the book and make the poppers! Best poppers I've ever had. The recipes are well written and easy to follow. The pictures are gorgeous. I have many cookbooks, this has easily become my favorite. Quick easy delicious meals.

This cookbook makes vegan eating even more fun than it already was. Jalapeño poppers, Mongolian tofu, what's not to love? I've lost 40 pounds since going vegan this year and this cookbook has given me ideas on how to use my air fryer for healthy recipes as well as a few special treats. Sometimes I modify the recipes slightly and get creative. My carnivorous husband loves the recipes, too! Without this cookbook, I would have been at a loss on how to get started with the air fryer as a vegan. The author is also really engaged in the Facebook group, "Vegan Air Fryer Enthusiasts" answering questions about recipes and giving additional advice. This is just an added bonus that makes this beautiful cookbook even better. The community in this group is extremely supportive and encouraging to all members, regardless of why they became a vegan and what types of food they air fry.

Best air fryer cookbook I've used. Saw JL Fields in person in Albuquerque and so glad I bought her book and an air fryer!

I really like JL and purchased this book after watching a video she did with Chef AJ. I found this book to be helpful in general with tips on air frying tofu and various marinades. That said, the recipes are not as useful in my SOS free kitchen. Many of the recipes call for vegan cheese and other refined vegan products like vegan hotdogs, and I prefer healthier whole food recipes. This may be a better fit for someone transitioning to a WFPB diet whose palate hasn't adjusted to a salt, oil, sugar-free way of life. I hope this helps!

JL is a talented writer and vegan culinary expert in the use of time saving kitchen appliances. Her recipes are fantastic. You won't miss meat or dairy and will be eating healthier, enjoyable meals. Essential book for all air fryer owners. The author is well respected in the vegan community and her cookbooks are filled with delicious recipes.
