I dont mind that time frame, I wish the packaging was a little better.It arrived in a bubble wrap envelope with no support for possible bending of the book, maybe this could be stiffened with pieces of cardboard the same size or just a little bit over which might protect from bending corners as well. This copy arrived in decent shape as described "like new". Thanks

I love this book. Any player for mage should at least browse through this book. It breaks down the 2nd major mage faction, and proves that at least two of the four sides aren't bad guys. The book infact makes one see the Traditions as the guys without the plan and who are wrong.The first Chapters talk about who the Technocracy is. They aren't the monolith that the Tradition mages make them seem like. They are orginized enough to seem like a monolith but they aren't. Neither is the Technocracy people, their are people higher up in the Pyramid who are evil but most people are what would pass as normal people.The next rules chapters are full of all types of treats. Tons of new backgrounds including Modifications (Cybernetics and Bioengineering), Patron and Requisitions. These all can lead to story ideas in themselves. Their are tons of technocratic rotes, that help a person to think of "magic" as anything but Magic. Tons of Devices, aka Talismans, are included with a wide variety of uses, and other odd "crunchy" statistical things. On the whole this book is very interesting and is almost as essential as the corebook if you want info on the other major faction of mages.

The Guide to the Technocracy presents the Ascension Wars from the Techs' perspective, making them defenders of reality from the horrors of egocentric and irresponsible Reality deviants. Welcome to the "Men in Black" vision of reality, to protect the masses of humanity from the hordes of crazies.The book is charged with much source material, history, perspectives and how to run interesting Technocracy players and games. The weaknesses are more in the game mechanisms, which do not truly give away a Technocracy feeling.Rotes and equipement are a weak part, but the greatest failure is that Technocrat 'mages' are still described in game mechanisms as typical mages fooling themselves in using technology. As such, techies are less powerful than other mages. Moreover, the usual White Wolf left-leaning anarchist worldview remains omnipresent, and the reader can't help getting the overall feeling Technocrats (except perhaps for Void Engineers) are the bad guys after all, however just their cause. This is something weak, more emphasis should have been given to portraying Tradition mages as terrorists and roving maniacs.

This great book makes you want to play as the traditional bad guys from Mage. In a completely different mood than classical Mage, Guide to the Technocracy lets you get in the war as a Mage full of gadgets, in the spirit of TV series such as X-Files, Nikita or Mission: Impossible.New backgrounds, skills, merits/flaws are presented. The Spheres are given for the first time in Mage books a whole technological view, and the history part is simply excellent, giving the Techies a whole new view as the "good guys".A great book, indeed!

I don't often run campaigns; most of the Mage books I purchase are resources for online gaming. This book, however, made me want to collect all my friends and run a game as soon as possible.It has been Whitewolf's tendency in the past to present the Mages' enemies as monolithic forces; mindless incarnations of evil. Very two-dimensional. The Technos are the evil government oppressors, the nephandi are all freddy kreuger wannabes.While this is still the case with the Nephandi, this book added a good dash of flavor and depth to the Technocrats as PCs. This book is Mage: the Ascension for X-files affictionados.Those who read Guide to the Technocracy will find themselves wondering if.. maybe -- just maybe -- we might be better off if the black hats actually won the war..

Probably one of the better WoD books ive read, it makes the technocracy very playable; taking away the stereotype of them being stoic, evil and always using Star-Trek speech. Good buy.

If you want to understand Methodist practice, theology and worldview this book will help you get your feet wet. If you want to understand a larger scope of Western Christianity then this book is not for you. It has very little cross-application unless you are coming from a Methodist or Wesleyan tradition. This is not to say the book is a failure but it is to say the book has a very specific language to a very specific audience. I could go into the details but if you come from another Protestant tradition you may struggle to find common ground and application points.

"Christian leadership is defined, formed, and shaped by, as well as rooted and deployed in accordance with, who God is, where God is, what God is doing, and what God would have individuals and communities be and do. Leadership in the Christian community is a sharing in the life and mission of the triune God, which means that it begins, continues, and ends in communion with, obedience to, and praise of the God we know as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Such leadership is much more than institutional direction and management." This densely packed statement about the character of Christian leadership is from a new book written by Bishop Ken Carder and Dr. Laceye Warner. Both these authors teach at Duke University Divinity School. Their book, Grace to Lead: Practicing Leadership in the Wesleyan Tradition, is a clear and concise guide for the formation and practice of Christian leadership. As the title indicates, the book focuses on approaches to leadership derived from the theology and ministry of John and Charles Wesley. When Carder and Warner look at the life and witness of the Wesley brothers and the movement they lead, they see that leadership is rooted in doctrine and mission. This is countercultural for much of the leadership literature circulating in the church today. They teach that leadership is rooted in technique, relevance and power. The goal of leadership is organizational success; with success judged according to market standards. When applied to the church, this market-oriented approach to leadership is dependent upon programs with broad appeal and satisfying perceived needs of members all with the goal of attracting as many people as possible. An alternative to such market oriented leadership strategies is to focus on the historic doctrine of the church that direct the church toward participation in God's mission for the world. This shifts the telos, or goal, of leadership from institutional success to missional faithfulness. It shifts the focus ministry from the church and onto God and God's mission in the world. Reading the works of John and Charles Wesley reveal that leadership is derived from a life steeped in grace; the power and presence of God in the world. Leaders are persons who habitually open themselves to this grace and freely share it with others. This means that leadership and discipleship are inseparable. In the Wesleyan tradition leaders are persons who practice the disciplines of love known as "means of grace." These practices form their identity and worldview in ways that conform them to the image of Christ. One implication of this, according to Carder and Warner, is that authority for leadership is derived more from baptism than ordination. Grace to Lead is the best book on leadership in the Wesleyan tradition I have encountered. It is an excellent resource for small group study. The authors include questions to lead discussion at the end of each chapter. My prayer is that Grace to Lead will be on every Bishop's "required reading" list in every annual conference in 2011.

I'm a tax lawyer who sometimes needs to understand the basics of a bankruptcy rule. For example, in working on a cancellation of debt issue, I recently realized I need to understand what bankruptcy lawyers mean by saying a class of creditors is "impaired" or "unimpaired." This book is the perfect solution -- in this example, it has a very nice 3 or 4 page discussion of the issue and some conflicting court cases, and also explains the practical dynamics that come up because only an "impaired" class can vote on whether the accept a plan of reorganization.A further practical benefit is that citing (and even including a copy of a relevant discussion) from a standard but not too complicated book like this -- as opposed to the gigantic "Collier on Bankruptcy" -- can be quite persuasive to the other side. A related point is that Professor Baird is a highly respected student of the bankruptcy process, making his views yet more persuasive.

Good, concise overview of bankruptcy law, but didn't map completely onto my bankruptcy class so it wasn't as useful as it could have been. It also seems like it could be better organized, but that might just be because I feel so lost in bankruptcy right now.

Seriously so helpful!!!! If you are using the Baird book, definitely get this. It helps simplify the concepts and makes reading the casebook and understanding the class way easier!

Really interesting book on some of the foundations of bankruptcy

I am a paralegal and when the attorney I was working for needed me to file a bankruptcy case I purchased this book. It was a good start, but I found that I needed quite a bit more than the training provided. I needed a lot more experience drafting petitions and training on bankruptcy software. I downloaded the trial version of best case bankruptcy software and found out that I was still lost when actually preparing the petition. I went on to get trained through 713training.com a bankruptcy training company. I am now self employed just doing bankruptcies virtually for attorneys around the country thanks to that training. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs the actual bankruptcy law training, but in order to complete bankruptcy petitions I think you need a full training program.

I have an official size-and-weight MBA from a respected University, and would advise educators to have every high-school student read and discuss Complete MBA for Dummies before graduation. The facts are simple; the lessons clear and applicable. A good, common-sense approach to reality.

Doesn't really dive into the actual components and contents taught to you for an MBA, it's mostly general knowledge if you were wanted to start a small business.
