My all time favorite cookbook. My mother gave me this book when it first came out and I lost it in Hurricane Katrina. Once we were back in our home, 2 years later, I was able to contact Wendi Schneider - the illustrator, and get another copy, which she autographed for me. It was the FIRST cookbook I replaced from my collection. Since then I have purchased several more as gifts. I have several editions of the original 1901 book the Sesquicentennial Edition is by far one of the best New Orleans cookbooks and a must have for collectors, if you can find one. The new larger one that's out called the Picayune's Creole Cook Book but NOT the Sesquicentennial Edition is just a reprint of the 1901 version and doesn't have the explanations and current measurements in the margins. Don't confuse the two as being the same because they are not.

Compiled from the cooks that were still around when the New Orleans newspaper, The Picayune, realized that they were all dying out and proceeded to seek them out and record all their knowledge for posterity. I bought this book in paperback several years ago and it was fascinating reading alone, and the recipes are a bonus. Now my Granddaughter is starting Chefs school in New York and I bought this Hardback to present to her.

I am a major authenticity freak, especially when it comes to cookbooks! I was expecting the cookbook to be in a modern font and redone for the modern cook. I was excited when I saw that it is a very nicely copied version! I could not be happier.

This is a replacement of the original cook book I owned--inherited from my mother, fingerprints and all--that disappeared. I love it for the eccentricity it displays. For example, a recipe may call for cheese. Maybe when these recipes were written down there was only one type of cheese. There are so many now that finding the best for a recipe can be a challenge, but carry on. The creativity is part of the fun.

The keystone of Creole cultural cooking, the North American culinary tradition, the Picayune has had its finger on the pulse of Louisiana for a long time. Recipes leave lots of room for interpretation, serve more as a guidelines than a hand-holding experience. Only criticism I can offer is that it could use some illustrations. I understand the project is to take all of the Picayune's recipes and put them in a book, but it should be augmented by pictures, it's a cultural tome and should be a joy to read, not just a cooking reference. I expected more of a coffee table book and got a recipe tome.

The "bible" of Creole cookery, originally published in 1901, is an invaluable volume describing Creole cooking at the beginning of the last century. It's a remarkable view of the cooking in America's most food-obsessed city and the home of America's only truly indigenous cuisine. The Sesquicentennial Edition (which will hopefully be re-issued) reproduces almost all the recipes of the original edition, using the original text, but adds marginal annotations showing modern measurements, suggestions for ingredient substitutions, and other information about the recipes that make them accessible to contemporary cooks. It's certainly possible to cook from the original, unannotated editions, but it probably takes a more experienced cook to figure out the quantities and ingredients in many of the recipes.

This cook book makes you want to book a flight to NOLA!--or at least cook like you are already there. This is a high quality reproduction in Celebration of 150 years of the cookbook's printing. The cookbook arrived in perfect/pristine/ready to read/use condition. Print size is most legible. This is a quality production!

Nice cover and binding. I expect the recipes are quite reliable and good. But the quality of the print is not, as the ink is poor and very faint in some places. Further, the size has been reduced, making it even more difficult to read the faded text. I was going to give this to an avid cook and fan of Creole dishes, but it's more of a reference book for comparison purposes perhaps, and not something to be used on a frequent basis.

Pretty good. There aren't a lot of vegan air fryer recipes out there so I'm glad I got it. But she uses a lot of vegan fake food, so there isn't a lot for whole food vegans.

The Jalapeño Poppers recipe is DELICIOUS!! Like the 4th of July in my mouth! Thank you, J.L.

First of all, JL is a real person who cooks real food - she doesn't try to pretend all vegan food is HOLY or HEALTHY - she goes more for DELICIOUS and cruelty-free.. I love this book and my air fryer is one gadget my husband will use without question or fear.. he's a bit intimidated by the pressure cooker, but the air fryer gets daily use here! I'm eager to attend a "live" demo soon and to use this book for amazing recipes and advice. Hey - I try to cut oil and fats and because every recipe is a SUGGESTION of what worked for JL and multiple testers.. that doesn't mean we can't change it up to suit ourselves! I already love this book - it's gorgeous (much like JL herself), the recipes make sense, the feel and texture of the book itself are wonderful.. so glad I've got it!!

I can't even describe how much I love this book. I've only had it a day and have already done two recipes. The doughnut holes and jalapeño poppers. Pictures attached. If I had more ingredients I'd be busy making everything all night. Buy the book and make the poppers! Best poppers I've ever had. The recipes are well written and easy to follow. The pictures are gorgeous. I have many cookbooks, this has easily become my favorite. Quick easy delicious meals.

This cookbook makes vegan eating even more fun than it already was. Jalapeño poppers, Mongolian tofu, what's not to love? I've lost 40 pounds since going vegan this year and this cookbook has given me ideas on how to use my air fryer for healthy recipes as well as a few special treats. Sometimes I modify the recipes slightly and get creative. My carnivorous husband loves the recipes, too! Without this cookbook, I would have been at a loss on how to get started with the air fryer as a vegan. The author is also really engaged in the Facebook group, "Vegan Air Fryer Enthusiasts" answering questions about recipes and giving additional advice. This is just an added bonus that makes this beautiful cookbook even better. The community in this group is extremely supportive and encouraging to all members, regardless of why they became a vegan and what types of food they air fry.

Best air fryer cookbook I've used. Saw JL Fields in person in Albuquerque and so glad I bought her book and an air fryer!

I really like JL and purchased this book after watching a video she did with Chef AJ. I found this book to be helpful in general with tips on air frying tofu and various marinades. That said, the recipes are not as useful in my SOS free kitchen. Many of the recipes call for vegan cheese and other refined vegan products like vegan hotdogs, and I prefer healthier whole food recipes. This may be a better fit for someone transitioning to a WFPB diet whose palate hasn't adjusted to a salt, oil, sugar-free way of life. I hope this helps!

JL is a talented writer and vegan culinary expert in the use of time saving kitchen appliances. Her recipes are fantastic. You won't miss meat or dairy and will be eating healthier, enjoyable meals. Essential book for all air fryer owners. The author is well respected in the vegan community and her cookbooks are filled with delicious recipes.

The personalities, the politics, the tactics, the technicalities of passenger liner and U-Boat operation, and the effect it all had on history - they are all there.

Erik Larson is not capable of writing anything less than a gripping account of history. All of his previous books have been spellbinding accounts of storms, cities, crimes, inventions, ships and/or war. While Preston addressed Room 40, in Larson's writing, the room takes on a role and becomes a character (albeit not a very appealing one) in its own right.Larson skillfully gets into the mindset of Winston Churchill and how determined he was to see America enter the war. In the States, Larson goes back in time and brings President Woodrow Wilson to life through a love affair that seemed to take up more of his time than thinking about the suitability of America's neutrality. Yet Larson allows readers to see Wilson in a most human light; perhaps the love affair gave him the strength for the decisions he had to make later. While the reader feels a connection with Wilson and also with the much-maligned but ultimately blameless Captain of the Lusitania, Captain Turner, utter horror and strong dislike is brought out when we read about Captain Schwieger of U-Boat 20 and, in a strange way, perhaps even more when we examine the real-life characters and goings-on within the Admiralty's Room 40. Germany and Britain both emerge as more than a bit despicable.The pluses of Larson's latest work are his acute examination of Room 40, his up-close look at Woodrow Wilson, and his ability to swing between the behind-the-scenes action and balance his discoveries with a conventional but absorbing look at some of the passengers on board the Lusitania all while building a true and terrifying suspense in the narrative. His profile of Charles Lauriat, Boston bookseller and collector of rare documents and drawings, is excellent. One senses that Larson was truly interested in Lauriat and might, having not been faced with producing a book to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Lusitania's sinking, have chosen Lauriat as a sole subject for a book or article.Erik Larson can never disappoint. Whether one reads a great deal about WWI history, maritime disasters, or early 1900s international politics, there is something new to be learned in DEAD WAKE. For those who have read very little about the Lusitania, this book is an excellent starting point. As mentioned before, Diana Preston's LUSITANIA: An Epic Tragedy tells a similar story but with a slightly different approach. Both books have something to offer, but Larson's, being newer, may include some fresh revelations about the history we thought we knew.

Indeed, the captains of the Lusitania and the U-Boat, Cunard executives, Woodrow Wilson, Winston Churchill and Kaiser Wilhelm made assumptions about each other’s behaviors and interests which proved to be tragically wrong. A very well researched accounting of the attack and sinking. Larson does a good job debunking some of the myths that had arisen over the years, many of which I had heard before as updated evidence came out. This is the first book I've read on the Lusitania in quite a while, but was aware of many of the basic facts. Larson does an excellent job in tracking the movements of both the Lusitania and U-20 from the time they left their respective ports until they met off the old head of Kinsale, to give the reader a feeling of each ship's journey. In particular, the decisions made by both Captains Turner and Schweiger that day in terms of courses and speed of each vessel that resulted in a perfect shot setup for Schweiger. Also covered are passenger stories of some aboard, wartime events that resulted in allowing passenger ships to be targeted, apparent apathy of the Wilson White House on the goings on of the war to that point and why, and aftermath of the sinking on both Captains and the war mentality. Overall, a highly informative and interesting book.

The book was supposed to be published by The Folio Society and it was instead an inexpensive printing that was part of a series. Very disappointed and it has made me lose confidence in the accuracy of the descriptions on Amazon.

While I was familiar with the story, having seen the film and listened to audio dramas based on this book, I had not read the actual book until now. BY Wells' classic tale of an evil man who discovered the secret of invisibility, his reign of terror and retribution are still a great story. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audiobook. The great Scott Brick masterfully narrated this tale in a beautiful British accent. The book has added scenes of filler, which are normally left out of the adaptations. I would love to see a modern production, faithful to the book. Once it gets going after a bit of slowness in the beginning, it is fast paced and exciting. The Invisible Man is often his own worst enemy, due to his temper, vanity and greed. Glad to check this classic off my list.

I love H.G. Wells! He was so ahead of his time with his science fiction.I decided to read this book because I recently read The Madman's Daughter trilogy, the first of which is a retelling of this book (which I highly recommend by the way!). It was very interesting to see what that author took from the original.This book was both thought provoking and absolutely creepy. It's a pretty short and easy read and totally worth it!The book itself is also beautiful and looks great on my bookshelf

This is NOT the book in the image nor is it Folio Society. While the image is a folio society book it’s not the Invisible Man. The book I received was of a quality (for lack of a better word) I’d expect to find in the youth section of an underfunded public library. I have since bought the Folio Society edition of The Invisible Man from ebay

This story was a bit shallow for a classic piece of literature. It was dark all the way through. The Invisible Man was an evil character with no redeeming characteristics. Unlike the monster in Frankenstein who originally had the human desire for companionship and acceptance, this character had sinister motives and nothing else. The only part of this book that I found interesting was the discussion and explanation of how invisibility was achieved. Other than that, I was happy to finish the book so I could read something else.

I knew the story already, having seen a movie version of it when I was a child. I didn't remember that the invisible man had character flaws which led him to hurt others and to think only of himself. I kept thinking as I read how strange it would be to actually meet an invisible person. Very unique and entertaining story.

The story itself earns a 5-star. BUT...this version on Kindle is practically unreadable, as the formatting is messed up. Paragraphs frequently broken into chunks, frequently a single word to a line regardless of the font or size font used. There are several other $.99 versions of this classlc available on Kindle, all of which seemed to have avoided this formatting pitfall. Buy one of those instead.

The message of this book still rings true today. In a world with ever-changing technology and scientific advances, we must still be careful of the impact of those changes and advances. Their effects can be far-reaching and sometimes can be irreversible.As to the writing in this book, the author creates a vivid picture in the mind of the reader of each character and their actions, building the tension with each page. In the days before technology brought us the "moving pictures" of the movies, this author was taking his readers for a suspenseful, action packed ride with only their imagination to paint the pictures in their minds. It is rich in the details of each person, each room, each scene that is before you. I pictured them all in my mind - making my own "movie of the mind". I have seen several movies that were based on this book in the past, but had never read the original book by H. G. Wells. The reading of this book made the best "movie" of all.

I really like this book. The stories are just the right length to share with my clients. I work in a Substance Abuse treatment center and I like to read stories that apply to the clients and discuss them. Great way to begin a discussion about issues.

This is a lovely book. The stories are delightful and geared to specific psychological problems. This makes the stories particularly useful when incorporated into hypnotic work.

Once again Schiffer does great justice to a WW2 icon that continues to the present time! Great photos, information little known obscure testing and manufacturing facts. I like the chapters on the different models used and especially the 6x6 variants of which I've never seen before! In my early military career, I drove the M152 series jeep and later as a medic the M718. FLA medical jeep! This is another great Schiffer book that is a valuable, cost effective,treatise on a very Important vehicle do WW2 and beyond! While on deployment to Iraq in 2005, I drove a. GAZ Russian jeep variant we got from the Iraqi army! The Jeep lives on!!

Lots of factual mistakes, spelling mistakes, and inconsistencies. It reads like a book written by a high school student for a senior project and then printed without an editor giving it a solid do-over. Would not recommend.
