I'll give 5 stars to the first edition for CEHv7 but 4 stars for CEHv8 on 2nd Edition, only because the exam changed gears.I've taken both, and both editions are "on target" for v7. In v8, however, I passed again, having one of the "several timed sections on one topic" version of the exam, rather than all questions in one sitting version of exam. You do still need to know the major tools listed: how to use, expected results and how to interpret results.The reason I drop the 2nd edition to 4 stars (I wish I could give 4.5) is because:- I did not expect and got blindsided by almost 20% of the exam hitting on PKI/digital certificates/identity management. I will suggest an expansion on PKI, et al to a full chapter. In the meantime, please find a supplemental source to study these before you take your exam.- There were also a few (<5) questions on a specific "free" testing methodology that self-promotes 6 of its own certifications and related training programs (which of course cost money), and which article Wikipedia yanked in 2011 for spammy self-promotion. I do hope that this addition to v8 gets reconsidered and removed from future versions of the CEH by the EC|Council. I've only seen 2 pages or so on this in two recent books, hardly drawing your attention to it, and not in depth.- Web security questions require more actual knowledge of securing a web page, as one would obtain from the OWASP project pages, and "hands-on" practice doing so. Please also do supplemental study with OWASP materials.- There was also one chapter area that was surprising completely missing on my v8 exam.- Finally, there were no PowerPoint pictures on the exam (a distractor in v7 exam), and more "soft" questions without code samples.Matt Walker's 2nd edition could be revised to cover these areas, or an addendum posted on a forum such as www.cccure.org. Still, this is an excellent resource, coupled with DeFino. The Gregg book is also a good supplement. Do download the extra online McGraw-Hill LearnKey exam as referenced in the book, and/or the Practice Tests book. Do the same for the online exams mentioned in the other two book sources. With those, plus a PKI study source, and OWASP / hands-on web security, you'll do fine on the exam -- whichever version you receive.

About Me: I've been in IT for 10 years, currently a SysAdmin looking to move into InfoSec. I hold several certs, a BS in IS, etc. To put it briefly, I have read a lot of material and taken well over 10 cert exams from many vendors over the last 10 years.This book by far was the best resource I used to gain the correct knowledge to pass the exam. However, the material was very focused on passing the exam. I was disappointed to find that the tools used in the book are almost all Windows-based. For the CEH, I used CBTNuggets, Boson ExSim, this book, TotalTester (free d/l with book), and manual pages for tools (nmap, hping, etc). If your goal is to PASS, this book and the TotalTester software is all you really need. If your goal is to have a good knowledge of penetration testing, this book is nowhere near enough. I blame this more on the CEH exam than the book itself.Pros: - Book is easy to read, not a "dry" book like many other cert books - Material included in book is very close to what is on the exam - TotalTester software almost identical to the style/type of questions on the CEHv8 exam.Cons: - Almost no discussion of Linux tools - No real in depth labs - I would have loved to have seen some in depth Metasploit, Nessus, etc. labs in the book. There were some exercises but I would have like to have seen a lot more in depth labs. - Some minor errors - nothing major and far less than what you see in other IT books. I know some reviews harp on this; however, most IT books have tons of major errors. I didn't see any that really majorly put me off from the book.Overall, very good book for passing the exam; however, don't expect to read this and actually be a security expert when finished. Again, this is more of a fault against the CEH than the book itself.

This book is more succinct and more useful than the official EC-Council courseware books for CEH v8. I read this book before attending a CEH boot camp and felt like a CEH prodigy compared to my classmates. Without the book I probably wouldn't have passed the CEH exam.Although I lack reviewer Bob's experience, I think the publisher needs to add an errata page for the book on the McGraw Hill web site. There were some errors in the end of chapter practice questions.

To be sure, given that Polly is my daughter, what I have to say is subject to a discount factor. Having said that, however, I offer - as objectively as I can - the following: she has taught me more about the skillful persuasion needed to bring together good minded, but stubborn, intellects who, all with good intent, find themselves incapable of seeing another's possibly opposing view. Having spent 50 plus years in the Law (trial lawyer, judge, arbitrator, mediator, etc) I thought I knew most all needed to bring about a just result, but Polly has now taught me the finesse, the savoir-faire, which I may have been seeking. Her book is a MUST READ for those in the expanded world of academia, especially the practitioners of museum exhibitions, who seek the glue necessary to adjust to opposing views in order to reach a common goal.

This book takes a thorough look at creating exhibitions. It serves as both instruction and as a reminder of why we do the things we do (visitor testing, formulate goals, etc.). I see myself referring to and rereading this book for years to come. Beyond just being applicable for those in the Museum Field, I feel the content provided will have broader impacts. (A friend and Urban Planner is currently using it to help her plan and structure community forums and meetings.)Beyond actual content, I really appreciated how the book didn't just advocate a collaborative approach to creating exhibitions that account for many voices. The book is actually structured in the same way: a range of museum professionals act as guest writers and provide personal insight on topics.

This book puts on paper what many of us have learned the hard way. The authors recognize that creating exhibits like most creative endeavors takes place in a real world of budgets, schedules and competing expectations. Creativity by committee is not an oxymoron. It is the way most of us have to work. This book shows us the way to do it well.

Although I have not yet read the whole book, I like the way the chapters flow and the many essays from people in different disciplines. We read how these people put the authors' ideas into practice. Also the graphics imaginatively and concretely help get the authors' points across. I especially liked the essay which was titled " An Art Historian's Perspective." If you are interested in attending or creating exhibitions, you will greatly enjoy this book. You can see that the authors' took their own advice, when they collaborated on this book.

This is a highly readable, extremely helpful book for novices and pros alike. Written in an engagingly conversational manner, this book will shortly become the standard handbook for museum professionals.

SUPER Useful. If you are an EMT, Paramedic, or a medic student, this comes in handy in all sorts of situations. The color coded tabs help locate things very easily as well. My personal favorite part of this product is the section of commonly prescribed drugs. Some of the medications that patients are on can sound so obscure, but this book lets you find it super quick without needing to pull out your phone.Would definitely recommend to anyone in EMS!

Very easy to find what you need and the drop charts make everything manageable in stressful situations. Wish I had just bought this guide first.

This book is still worth reading (again) 20+ years later. Negroponte didn't get too many things wrong, and while he didn't anticipate self-driving cars (in the section on smart cars) or ad stalking and other surveillance on the I-Net, or Bitcoin, there's enough here that was still relevant that I was glad I got a copy to re-read. Negroponte did a better job of pointing out the important issues and where we might be twenty years later than, say, Gates did in "The Road Ahead", given that the I-Net for the masses was brand new in 1995.

I read this book, partly based on the implied challenge of one of my professors. After finishing it, I can only say I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it.For starters, you can't blame Negroponte for the dated material in the book. After all, it was published in 1995. One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was reading some of the predictions made by Negroponte back then, and how they turned out. The "atoms vs. bits" argument was arguably revolutionary at the time and I think it is a relevant method of discussing the digital revolution with students who were born either during or shortly before the book being published. Dinosaurs such as I can remember the days before the internet and when we had to use typewriters to work on papers. I remember how completely freaked out I was the first time I heard my computer "speak" in 1994, after installing a sound card and CD ROM drive - so the concept of interactive computing and hence moving bits vs. moving atoms is a bit of an eye-opener to an old timer. To those who come of age post-Internet, its a good way of grounding you in the history and function of digital life. The best arguments in the book show up in the introduction and in the conclusion - I think that's where Negroponte is at his best. He pontificates (as well as predicts!) very well in these sections - much better than in the rest of the book.Between the intro and conclusion... well... there seems to be a lot of rambling. Kind of reminds me of a guy at work who won't stop talking once he starts. And then its scattershot from one topic to another, blah de blah de blah, with no real substance. The best part between the opening and closing is when Negroponte goes off about the stupidity of fax technology. Quite frankly I agree - why type something on a computer, print it out, put it in another machine, send it electronically to wherever, so that someone at the other end can print out another copy? Complete waste of paper, to say the least. Makes me wonder if the lumber/timber industry isn't involved somehow... but other than that, there just isn't much there.That said, this isn't really a bad book. At times I found myself nodding in agreement, other times nodding off to sleep, and other times laughing out loud either at the foolishness of some predictions or the uncanny accuracy of others. Overall however, I wasn't too terribly impressed.
