It's hard not to make some very derisive comments about this book, because it is a horribly written and organized book. There are very few examples given, no review of the material and/or testing of comprehension by the "complete idiot" who may be reading the book, and concepts are poorly introduced and clarified. In my estimation, this book is a waste of hard-earned money. To be honest, I've had the same experience with every "Complete Idiot" book I've purchased, and I have, now, purchased my last one.

Book is not as easy at it promotes itself. Explanations are few, and a lot of background info in just not there. It helps, but now what I expected.

The book is in great condition and for the price I would buy another just to have a second copy.

Just to be clear, I didn't read this book because I had to or that I was trying to supplement for a college text, I read it because I am interested in the subject and had some spare time to spend on it. I didn't have tests and deadlines to go with it so I had time to reall.y study it. In spite of that I could only make it to page 85. I put a lot of time into this book with pencil and paper working out the calculations and so forth and I thought it was great at first, until I noticed that the author published the book before proof-reading for mistakes. One thing I've learned is that Physics is a fairly exact science. This requires mathematic rigor, and to fly through a topic as if the reader is already familiar with it, or worse, to blatantly make a mistake in calculations, isn't something I have enough spare time to forgive. I'm giving it two stars though because as of yet I'm not familiar with any book which can introduce a person to physics that is better than it. It is good in that respect but it's not worth the headache of putting up with a teacher who routinely makes errors. Doing physics calculations can be a major migraine within that context so it's a two-star book. Hopefully soon I'll find something better than it.

Jeffrey Marx is a Pulitzer Prize winning author (for investigative reporting, not for this book), who takes on the question of what it means to be a man in our society. He does this by following former Baltimore Colt defensive tackle Joe Ehrmann for a year while Ehrmann helped coach a Maryland high school football team. This team has two goals each season – to win the league championship and to beat their rival high school. But their methods, well, that’s the point of the book. The book focuses on the coaches’ goal of Building Men for Others and on the mantra that everyone on the team memorizes: What is the coach’s job? To love the players. What is the player’s job? To love each other. This is not football as most fans see it, but what does it do to the kids on the team?As Marx tells the story, it builds character, it builds strong and positive relationships, it heals pain, and it Builds Men for Others. In a time when gender roles are changing radically, Marx presents an image of masculinity that is neither traditional (one might think of “a man’s man”) nor revisionist. Instead, it present an image of both strength and vulnerability, an image of individual character and of team character. Although Marx began this quest as a detached investigator and as an author, he closes the book by describing neither what happened to Ehrmann nor what happened to the players on the team; he closes the book by describing how the experience affected himself.The book is very well written and it is easy to read (as one might expect from a Pulitzer Prize winning author). It takes about 2-3 hours to read. It is a good book for anybody interested in exploring what it means to be a man in our society, for example, a sports coach or a new father of a young son.

This is an outstanding book, so outstanding that my daughter and I are going to have a book discussion group with my two teen grandsons with the book as the focus. My younger teen grandson is passionate about football, plays on his high school team. In fact it was the Senior Coach at his high school that recommended this book. But the book is more than about football, it is about building character in young men. This is why both boys need to absorb the lessons that this book teaches.The author is a Pulitzer Prize winner; that exemplifies the books quality. It is very easy to read, with great stories told from life. The lessons taught though are like a secular Sunday school without being preachy. It's all about learning what true manhood is, building real character and integrity. As a big plus, the author shines a light on the false values of professional football and society in general. Really excellent, highest recommendation.

This is a very thought provoking project that Joe E. has undertaken, and one that could significantly change the world if more people were to see how important it is. What he is undertaking is Bible based apparently, but to my understanding it is more a translation of the very heart of the Bhagavad Gita and the Six Workhorse Principles which are the core of the Gita, which is all about change, Being and becoming, change in the direction of our Reality, our Self or spirit, i.e. becoming more like what we truly are: Spirit, Satchitananda (Being /Consciousness/ Bliss), Self, with a capital S, and away from self , small "s", the ego self, the unreal ghost with which we mistakenly identify. That is what this book is really about: change. Change initiated by Paster Joe E. in the hopes that these football players, the recipients of the coaching, will be changed and make a better world. It is a wonderful project, and book about this project.

There is a direct connection between the way a young man is raised, the values instilled in his youth and the type of life he leads as an adult.Season of Life, written by Jeffrey Marx, is the story of Joe Ehrmann, a former NFL star with the then Baltimore Colts and his journey from football to an outstanding mentor for young men. Mr. Ehrmann's life was profoundly changed when his younger brother died at an early age from a rare form of cancer. His brother's death caused Mr. Ehrmann to totally rethink what was important in life.Joe became an ordained minister. He has devoted his life to helping young men get a better chance in life by providing a different style of coaching at the high school level. Most coaches focus on the Xs and the Os of the game, and the won loss record. Joe focuses on teaching the young boys to become the kind of men that will lead a highly productive life as an adult. As of the writing of this book, we was coaching a high school football team. He was also very active in coaching other coaches in his approach.According to Mr. Ehrmann, there are three major myths that most boys are taught about becoming a man. The first is that athletic ability is the initial step. The second is that sexual conquest is a big part of the process and the final myth concerns financial success. Relationships and love are downplayed. Men are taught to be stoic, to hide or suppress their emotions.Mr. Ehrmann teaches his players that the won loss record is not what matters most. What matters most is learning to be a man. Developing 360 integrity - that is integrity all round at all times.Even for those boys who have a good father role model, there are often emotional issues that need addressing. Most men teach their sons to be strong - they were taught not to be emotionally sensitive and that is the way they raise their sons. Too often the father is hiding behind a facade and is afraid to open up emotionally to their sons. As a result, many sons never really know their father.This book is short and easy to read. It is well written and filled with lots of emotional moments. You will come away with a different perspective on what it means to be a man. You will also have a better understanding of why the normal focus of raising boys has been wrong. You will see the connection between the way boys are raised and how they turn out.There is a large segment of our male youth who do not have good father role models. As a society we are paying a very high price in terms of social problems for these young men. This is a great way to improve the problem with a minimum cost.

He gives an unbiased, insider's view of his year with an Ali, who is nearing the end of his career. The photos are poignant; the commentary insightful. Although I followed those great matches, I was unaware of the behind-the-scenes account so well presented in the book - the victories, struggle, defeats, and determination of this great fighter. Like the author, I was a young teen who listened to the Clay-Liston fight on the radio. THE CHAMP is an inspiring tribute to this extraordinary person and a reminder that we need heroes like Muhammad Ali in our world today. This book is a must read for all Ali lovers.

Of all the iconic athletes in the world none has carried a stronger message than Ali - courage, tolerance and peace - he has shown us in his life what it takes to stand up for what you believe in - Michael Gaffney has captured the essence of the man and his message in his beautiful book of stories and photographs in a way no one else could unless they traveled and lived with The Champ on the road and at home for one amazing year. This book is a must read for all generations who believe we are on this earth for a reason and must find the path to face our lives authentically and with the "Courage of Conviction".

Excellent and insightful photo journal from an insiders propective of the end of Ali's e great boxing career. Highly recommended for any sports or boxing fan who appreciates an inside look.

Thia was a great story, and the pictures were great! I have watched Mohamed Ali's and adnired his skill as a heavy weight boxer over the years.

who needs to leave home anymore?...work from home and we love our home...do not like to venture out to go buy little bits or large bits...Amazon is making life a lot easier...even our UPS drive is a Amazon Prime member...ha!...

The author only provided superficial insights into Ali. I was hoping that after having spent a year with Ali there would be material that I was not already familiar with.

Paul Foerster wrote the best 2nd year algebra textbook I have ever examined or taught from. As a trained physicist and mathematician with an unusual and delightful sense of humor, Foerster develops the algebra by developing and illustrating the algebra skills in the context of functions. His applications are real-world, meaty and meaningful. It's a five-star tome for me.

My son's math teacher uses this textbook as he believes it is a better choice to inspire young minds to math. I have to agree, mainly because he teaches Math as an art the should be appreciated and discussed in fun, challenging, and inspired ways. Most mostly because my son is actively engaged and seems to struggle less when concepts and formulas are presented in readable, simple and straight forward ways!!Have purchase so another child will be toward math as fun, simple and something to share. It is sooo much more then just memorizing"

Love this classic Alg2/Trig textbook. I always recommend it (along w/Solutions Manual) to friends. Explanations are well-done, and the exercises are meaningful.

Very nice textbook that covers most of the topics for Algebra II. The problems are interesting and not too difficult. Much better than those newer textbooks.

Detailed and easy to follow. A good companion for the flash drive course.

Really good book, but too advanced for folks just starting out.

It is a good approach, although a bit dated. I use it for practice problems.

I'll give 5 stars to the first edition for CEHv7 but 4 stars for CEHv8 on 2nd Edition, only because the exam changed gears.I've taken both, and both editions are "on target" for v7. In v8, however, I passed again, having one of the "several timed sections on one topic" version of the exam, rather than all questions in one sitting version of exam. You do still need to know the major tools listed: how to use, expected results and how to interpret results.The reason I drop the 2nd edition to 4 stars (I wish I could give 4.5) is because:- I did not expect and got blindsided by almost 20% of the exam hitting on PKI/digital certificates/identity management. I will suggest an expansion on PKI, et al to a full chapter. In the meantime, please find a supplemental source to study these before you take your exam.- There were also a few (<5) questions on a specific "free" testing methodology that self-promotes 6 of its own certifications and related training programs (which of course cost money), and which article Wikipedia yanked in 2011 for spammy self-promotion. I do hope that this addition to v8 gets reconsidered and removed from future versions of the CEH by the EC|Council. I've only seen 2 pages or so on this in two recent books, hardly drawing your attention to it, and not in depth.- Web security questions require more actual knowledge of securing a web page, as one would obtain from the OWASP project pages, and "hands-on" practice doing so. Please also do supplemental study with OWASP materials.- There was also one chapter area that was surprising completely missing on my v8 exam.- Finally, there were no PowerPoint pictures on the exam (a distractor in v7 exam), and more "soft" questions without code samples.Matt Walker's 2nd edition could be revised to cover these areas, or an addendum posted on a forum such as www.cccure.org. Still, this is an excellent resource, coupled with DeFino. The Gregg book is also a good supplement. Do download the extra online McGraw-Hill LearnKey exam as referenced in the book, and/or the Practice Tests book. Do the same for the online exams mentioned in the other two book sources. With those, plus a PKI study source, and OWASP / hands-on web security, you'll do fine on the exam -- whichever version you receive.

About Me: I've been in IT for 10 years, currently a SysAdmin looking to move into InfoSec. I hold several certs, a BS in IS, etc. To put it briefly, I have read a lot of material and taken well over 10 cert exams from many vendors over the last 10 years.This book by far was the best resource I used to gain the correct knowledge to pass the exam. However, the material was very focused on passing the exam. I was disappointed to find that the tools used in the book are almost all Windows-based. For the CEH, I used CBTNuggets, Boson ExSim, this book, TotalTester (free d/l with book), and manual pages for tools (nmap, hping, etc). If your goal is to PASS, this book and the TotalTester software is all you really need. If your goal is to have a good knowledge of penetration testing, this book is nowhere near enough. I blame this more on the CEH exam than the book itself.Pros: - Book is easy to read, not a "dry" book like many other cert books - Material included in book is very close to what is on the exam - TotalTester software almost identical to the style/type of questions on the CEHv8 exam.Cons: - Almost no discussion of Linux tools - No real in depth labs - I would have loved to have seen some in depth Metasploit, Nessus, etc. labs in the book. There were some exercises but I would have like to have seen a lot more in depth labs. - Some minor errors - nothing major and far less than what you see in other IT books. I know some reviews harp on this; however, most IT books have tons of major errors. I didn't see any that really majorly put me off from the book.Overall, very good book for passing the exam; however, don't expect to read this and actually be a security expert when finished. Again, this is more of a fault against the CEH than the book itself.

This book is more succinct and more useful than the official EC-Council courseware books for CEH v8. I read this book before attending a CEH boot camp and felt like a CEH prodigy compared to my classmates. Without the book I probably wouldn't have passed the CEH exam.Although I lack reviewer Bob's experience, I think the publisher needs to add an errata page for the book on the McGraw Hill web site. There were some errors in the end of chapter practice questions.
